Is there a food bank in your area? They might be able to help with delivery... church groups? MP office? can you call your council association? Social services dept? Public health? I’m in Canada so if I got names of things wrong I apologize..

I would think a call to MP office would be a good start.... food bank a close 2nd...

Good luck 😊☀️🌷

Think you have to be signed on with church or foodbank and social services before hand. And cannot just turn up or decide for yourself that you are entitled. They check you out, if unemployed or in debt or little kids. Anyway I am housebound. I merely wanted to know about the supermarket deliveries as I have to rely on them.

I understand but in this scenerio at this point in time perhaps they can help you? You could try calling and explaining the situation... many compassionate people out there... 😊 there have been programs set up for this...🤔 call your MP to see what you qualify for, even thru municipality or city?

I dont qualify for any of these things - which is why I am not already signed up with them. I was asking about supermarket deliveries, and dont need them yet anyway. I am no worse off than many others in the same boat who have to rely on them.

I am also in the UK. Supermarket deliveries; they take the stock from the closest of that chain supermarket to you so if there's nothing there they cannot fullfill the order or they send out what they can.

We have been told there is no shortage of food; what's happened is people have panic bought stuff and so demand is higher than can be restocked from the warehouses. Now that the main supermarkets have limited items of stuff per customer I think it's now 3 of any item, they should stock back up soon. Also now all the panic buyers have gone home! It is worrying.

Perhaps a neighbour or a family friend can do your shop for you and leave it on your door if you're not feeling great.

Hi there. I dont have any family, friends in the area or local neighbours, if I did I would have already thought of that. But I would hope they also use online shopping rather than risk going there. I really am on my own except for when my partner can come over - he is often at work. He is avoiding the shops now for fear of catching the virus there. So are loads of people.Hence many who never used to are trying to use the online shopping system instead. I am signed up as a customer with them already so they accept me as a customer and turn away a lot of new online customers who have sprung up just because of this. We are both doing our shopping online. I dont need shopping yet, simply wanted to find out about it so I know how things are for when I do, probably for perishables which you cannot stock up on. I am unwell but also am housebound, so its not just about feeling well or unwell, I would be housebound anyway.

possibly do a google of any fruit / veg shops near you, some are linked with milk deliveries and butchers which may still do home deliveries.

If it's stuff you're going to cook; frozen fruit and veggies are actually fresher as they have to be packed and frozen within 24 hours, who knows how long a veg has been sitting in a supermarket for!

I already know there are no veg / fruit shops in the area. Nor milk deliveries. I have had to know all of this information for years having been housebound and living in this house for years. The best way to get my shopping delivered was worked out years ago. If you have a local small shop great, but they will also have a much smaller range and charge a lot more. This is about whether or not the supermarkets are now dealing with orders quickly and efficiently or if there will be a problem or hold up there. I always buy veg frozen because it is fresher and already prepared. An orange only has about 20% of the vitamin C it started off with by the time it gets to your home. Apart from bananas all of the fruit I eat is frozen a- mango, peaches, strawberries etc. As I live alone it wouldnt make sense to ask for a few vegetables to be delivered. I would either be ordering too much and throwing much of it away as it goes off or only getting a tiny amount for a few days and back to square one.

I guess just keep an eye on the websites you usually order from as to when they'll have stuff back in stock, I'm sure they're as lost as we all are by this. They'll be inundated by emails / phonecalls. I guess the only thing you can do is wait a bit and keep checking back.

hope you get some stuff in stock soon that you can order

Yes I agree. We are talking about big national supermarkets. You cannot phone them or email them . It is not how they work. They are too busy and would be understaffed. And whatever they tell you one day would be different the day after. Thankfully Ive got a good stock of food here for now anyway, its just handy to know for when I need to order more. I believe that people have panicked big time and stocked up and are hoarding. Manufacturers and supermarkets will realise this can mean they stop making of the special offers and put prices up and the more they supply now the more it gets snapped up. So will make the most of it. Buy foods that last. But remember that some food is less popular than others. Gluten free biscuits and cakes cost more and you probably would not normally need them or eat them but you can be sure they will stock it and supply it. Chilled ready meals cost more and are more likely to be available because most prefer the cheaper frozen ones. Nobody can stock up on perishables. People were talking about how people had bought up all of the toilet rolls in the supermarkets a while back. I said I dont blame them. They were right to. And now a month or more later there are none of the shop. So they were right to.Its sad but people will become very selfish and you need to be tool.

Have thought of that - or the other one - both big franchises and often advertised, have the brochures here. Right now we have enough food. Those meals they do are very tiny and often very expensive for what they are - the same frozen meal from a supermarket would be a third of the cost -a loaf of bread which is 50 pence in the shop is £2.50 from them - a pack of sausages which is £2 in a shop is £6 from them. A tiny meal can be £3.50 when a bigger meal which is just as nice might be £1.50 from a supermarket, most of what you pay is for the so called free delivery and expensive large colourful brochures. I will keep it in mind thank you.
