Hospitalization for Depression

I am so scared right now. I’ve been getting more and more depressed over the last 4 months. It’s to the point where I get out of bed for a few hours a day for the last month. I see a therapist and psychiatrist but have crappy insurance and they really don’t know how bad it’s been. I’m scared of going into the hospital because I hear it’s really bad! Help me....

I have read different horror stories (online) about hospitalizations as well. Personally, my experience (at a regular hospital's mental ward for 2 weeks ) was fine.

I was treated very well and felt happy even (after some time). I was only 16 at the time, and I think my expectations now are a little different and I might have a reaction to being locked in. I don't know.

I would go to my doctor and ask about possible stays. Tell them your concerns.

Also---

You may not need complete hospitalization. In my community, there is a "partial" hospitalization program that meets 5 hours a day for 1-4 weeks.

I attended this last year for 3 weeks and it helped me.

If you feel like you truly need more help than what you're getting, you should do it. It could get much worse if you continue trying to handle it on your own. Good luck. <3
