I'M NEW HERE

I'm a 63-year-old woman living in Florida since late 2013. My primary care doctor in Arizona documented some anxiety and depression, along with my physicals since 2000. I continued to work until 2013. I filed for Disability. I then started to attend group and individual counseling. I got a psychiatrist. She goes over my current antidepressants and doses to change if needed. I do go for some counseling therapy every now and then. I'll probably do this for the rest of my life. But except for a couple of physical issues and medication to fight my insomnia, I try to eat healthy and have great blood pressure. I'm rather underweight, though.

Hello Alta-mae,

Welcome 😊

From reading your post it sounds like you’ve done some positive work on yourself.

I’m 61, so we’re close in age. I’ve been on antidepressants for years. I also take a sleeping med to combat my insomnia. Plus I take a host of umpteen vitamin supplements that help me continue to walk the Earth.

I’ll be on all my meds for the rest of my life. As for my body, it’s average. If I get any exercise it’s from walking and that’s it. But all in all with my meds, a good therapist, a great hubby and our 4 cats my ship remains on an even keel. I hope yours does too.

Best,

MZ ❤️

Thanks, MrZ. It's good to know that I'm far from alone. There's still way too much stigma with mental health. Some are able to deal with it, others can't.

Well we come from a world that historically has pushed mental health concerns under the rug.

But that’s changing and new on the horizon that’s gaining recognition of importance. And it will continue to be important for many as it always will be for me. I’m glad it’s the same for you. ❤️

Glad you've come by. It sounds like you're doing what's needed for now (meds, therapy, etc). I do believe though that its all for a season and then we move on (if we're able, of course). You're 63 and have much more to live for. Be blessed in your everyday. Encourage others and feel it come back to you.
