Ah, Lexapro. Been there many years ago. Another of the go-to drugs for psych doctors. There are so very few (relatively speaking) that actually work without the terrible side effects discouraging patients from taking what are ostensibly medication. Just read up on it and it is the same as I remember. It's not likely that the medication caused your illness, but it is possible. An SSRI, it takes about 2-4 weeks for it to begin to take effect, perhaps a little longer. So a couple of days worth shouldn't ordinarily cause problems, but read all the side effects that may occur. One thing that made me want to get off them was my ballooning weight. Plus I really didn't notice that much of a change. Decided it wasn't worth it; they offered other drugs but they're all about the same. Mental health and adequate, effective medication for such has suffered for many decades of lackadaisical research. Companies only make drugs a molecule or so different from the others and now they have a "new and improved" medication to market. Not that it's a bad thing, just that it usually doesn't do anything more positive than any other drug on the market for your condition. It's a shotgun approach to medicating mental illnesses. Through everything at it (one or two at a time) and see what happens. They have little to no ideas about how these meds work. Allegedly they act to "balance the bad humors" in the brain. At least it's better than trepanation and leeches. Or a frontal lobotomy. I like what singer Tom Waits once said, "I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy." So true. Take care, hoping for the best for you. Not knowing your condition or why you're on this medication I can't say whether or not to continue taking it. Personally I would not but I have the benefit of hindsight; I've taken it myself and did not like it. For some of the issues it treats it appears to do much of the same things as a Xanax would plus a little more. Yeah I'm a big proponent of Xanax, been on it for about 20 yrs. or so. It's supposed to be for short term use but I find that it works just as well today as it did the first time I took it. It's a benzo and any doctor can write a script for it. If you'd like to give that a try I see no reason why your doctor would have a problem writing you a script for it. Though many doctors are scared sh*tless afraid the FDA/DEA will burst through the front doors for writing a new prescription. Not at all. It is a controlled substance but again, as an adult you can ask for it and should be able to get at least a low-dose short term supply to try. I can tell you it won't hurt at all. If your doc refuses then perhaps he doesn't have your best interests in mind.
