Hey guys, I’m hoping for some advice or support. Whenever I deal with something tough I still feel weak and freaked by it. For example over a month ago I got rear ended by someone and I finally got my car back and now I feel sort of anxious when I go out driving and I pray no one rear ends me. And just this weekend I got my wisdom teeth out and I started having an anxiety attack right before the procedure and I keep thinking about the procedure. I feel so anxious and I just want to get over it.

Your describing panic attacks which medication can help with. Also you can think positive thoughts or engage in healthy activities to keep your mind distracted like ecercise, eating healthy, being outside, going to your happy place, or anything fun you like to do. My happy place is down by the river by my house. I sit on the boat ramp for hours listening to the sound of the rushing water.
Hi, what I learnt from my therapist is that feelings usually are ignited by thoughts. You need to pay attention to what your mind is telling you before your emotions get escalated. You will get better with time at it. Once you identify the thoughts, you can deal with the distorted idea your mind is trying to feed you. Journalling will get you to awareness and eventually to busting those thoughts. Deep breathing exercises should be part of your daily routine.check an app called headspace to help you with breathing.
This week I also learnt in an anxiety busting course that the best way to deal with it is by accepting it and never try to be afraid of.
I am not sure if these apply to you, but I hope things get better with you.
Thank you. I am trying. I do fiction writing for my anxieties and that helps a lot. Sometimes it’s like I write a scene and I take a look at it and think “where the heck did that come from?” I’m learning to pace myself too and not try to put so much pressure on myself
I read your entry the other day in which you talk about writing fiction stories related to your anxiety. I got interested in the post. I hope you will post more on that. Keep the writing going!
Ditto! I've learned to "assign" my neauotic aspects to characters in my stories. You can really dump them into some afflicted fictional character & gain control because it's getting outside you...you're the master!
I like your advice and I love that it came from knowledgeable sources. You are really proactive in the anxiety area....
It does help a lot when you talk to experts, even if their words do not make sense initially. There are also people in this community who guide you to specific books or authors. Though my favourite part in joining this community is reading about experiences; how anxiety manifests itself and the way individuals go about it.
So far, the two responses seem pretty spot on. All I have to add would be to not beat yourself up about these feelings. I know for me, I have always tried to take on the world, not only in dealing with my own particular problems but I tried to face them alone and on top of it all, expected perfection and sometimes hated myself when I percieved myself failing.
One of the things that has helped me the most in the past few weeks and especially since I joined these forums was to forgive myself for my struggles and that people here care about me without having to be a superhero. We are all just people trying to get through adversity. Hope this helps.
Dig your username BTW. I just started Ben Franklin biography by Walter Isaacson. What do you like to read?
Thanks! I’m trying to not beat myself up. It can feel really hard sometimes. Writing it out like this helps a lot. And I read a lot of YA! I was an English Major in college though
