Old Hag

I was called an "Old Hag" by my boss's husband. I was so pissed off. He thinks it's funny to be rude to other people. Why do they keep judging me? Just because I am the quiet one doesn't mean I don't have feelings. They pick on me just because I don't fight. I don't fight because I am afraid to loose control of my anger.

For me I’d say to my self ‘that’s the boss’s husband’ so I don’t need to display any type of response especially anger... if I want to keep working and get my pay check. 😜

But I might go off and secretly grit my teeth and take a few metaphorical swings at this person.

So sorry he did this, your not an old hag, and just know there are many people out there that are just tactless, feel they can say anything to anyone. Where there 1 there’s 10 more just like him... gotta learn to brush stuff like off.

Yeah, I bit my tongue. I was at the point that I want to lash out at him. But I had stopped myself. Just mentally cursing him. Ignoring him. Pretending I don't hear any more of what he's saying.

True. He's still my boss husband. My boss would believe him more than me and say it's only a harmless joke. But some jokes are really too much. He's also a boss but he doesn't know how to respect people.

If he weren't my boss husband, I would surely had answered back. Hehe

Hi I discovered the best ways of stopping people picking on me. First I turn to humour and say laughingly 'Hey is it my turn to be picked on today?' And 'Well if you are picking on me you are leaving someone else alone'.

If that doesn't work and it is hacking me off I say firmly 'This isn't a topic for discussion.' I find this works. Another thing is agree with them if they call me an old hag or something. This takes the wind out of their sales. Or you say it's better than being a ******* like you!

Remember the more reaction people get out of you the more they will do it. Set your boundaries and don't give them it. x

My other colleagues heard it. But they said nothing. They think it's just a joke or they don't give too much emphasis on it. But I felt insulted right away.

Sadly my boss didn't hear it.

Then sue the company for allowing strangers roam in working area and insult employees. Then show that they are in fact mutually governing each others activities (since married) and that the insult was actually directly connected to boss - i.e. company - i.e. you get the deepest pockets to sue against. Employee laws are bent in favor of employee.

So you love your work that much, to not take any risks?

I feel you...but old hag is ridiculous how about they learn to respect the elders. And not knowing what you've been through all thru out your life... I'm totally with you on the not being afraid because you will lose, but of the damage your capable of doing if you blow up. .

He sounds like he has a serious boundaries issue....as well as a deep seated hatred to be so bold with a derogatory statement to someone his wife works with. You have but one recourse really if it happens again out of ear shot of anyone who could confirm his abuse... 'give as good as you get', but with surgical precision and diplomatic delivery...and then walk away.

Especially from someone at work and he ur bosses husband ... if i was her i would have said to him when we got home “ you need to stop that before we get sued”... he cannot do that..

Mayb he doin it coz he thinks he can do whatever he wants coz he is married to boss.

I would just throw back a flippant remark like “ wow , it it my turn for ur insults today” or “ jesus , ur wife must love u coz ur insults in the work place is a court case in the making”!!
