Hi. So I’ll have my first “maintenance “ ECT appt tomorrow & know the doc will ask if I feel better. I don’t really know what that means — I’ve felt so bad for so long that I’ve lost all sense of perspective. How can I tell if I’m “better”?

Be honest with the doctor, tell him/her exactly what you said right here. It may take a bit of time to find your bearings and that is ok.
Ask the Dr. to clarify what he/she means by better, as Broken 9902 suggests speak up as to what is going on with you, getting well takes time, be patient with yourself, be kind to yourself, do not judge yourself, be your own best friend, treat yourself with kindness and have faith. We are with you and send you strength, love and hugs.....Sprinkle 1.....
Definitely speak up to your doctor about this. If you’re spending a lot of time and money on something I think you should expect to start feeling better.
