i can’t shake the feeling that my life isn’t real. i feel like i’m in a bad dream or i’m in a coma that i just can’t wake up from. nothing feels real and everything is just numb. this is the worst feeling ive ever experienced and i don’t know what to do i feel trapped in my own head and fears.

I know that feeling. I had a breakdown in 2014. Those are the exact words I use to describe the beginning. I had no idea what was happening or why. I was a deer in the headlights. Trying to absorb the mess my life had become. I visualized I would just wake up one day and be put back into my same life. But, it didn't happen that way.

I've been in therapy for years. I take meds. I've always taken care of myself as far as exercise and eating goes.

It's a shock when it happens. But, with the proper help you can get better.

If you haven't started, therapy is a good idea.

I wish you luck.

I know exactly what you’re talking about. As crazy as this sounds I sometimes stare at myself in the mirror and ask myself “is this really me?”, because my life doesn’t feel real at that point.

I was experiencing something similar, but not quite as strong.

My feeling of depersonalization and unreality was actually due to my use of Medical marijuana.

IDK why it wasn't apparent to me, just that it took me a while to figure it out.

I know that you can get the same thing from experiences too.

Anyway I think you will probably get some good answers here.

In the meantime I was able to gain some relief just by controlling my thoughts - I rejected and did not allow myself to entertain these thoughts when they intruded. I have heard of people having success with" thought stopping" , literally yelling "Stop It" when negative thoughts intrude.

I always find help on YouTube by entering key words in the search box, and finally seeking help at churches, synagogues, whatever. Some clergy have extensive training in counseling. Best of all it's free, which makes it affordable even for me !

Please keep us posted on your situation!

Hello, been in your shoes, when everything seemed unreal to me, it is a strange feeling, it felt like I was in a movie, have seen plots in films where this happens. My own home felt alien to me, it was not nice, I felt like a robot going thru the motions.

Thankfully with therapy and med's it went away. Do you have someone you can trust to talk to? You can always talk to us here, as it is evident others here have experienced this strange phenomena, so do not feel alone we will share with you and do our best to help you. Talk to your Dr. you may need a short course of antidepressants to get your brain back to functioning properly. I wish you well, believe in yourself, it is your brain playing tricks and it can be sorted out. Sending peace, love and big hugs.....Sprinkle 1....
