Weight management on antidepressants

Have been on quite a few antidepressants and pretty much every single one caused me to gain weight, and then as a result i get really depressed about my weight, and my physical health gets worse .. like i have extremely high triglycerides in my blood, like a serious risk of pancreatitis and heart disease, but i eat a completely wholefood diet, low calorie , i exercise frequently, dont drink hardly... so anyway I stopped taking them for a while to be able to lose weight (became overweight despite healthy lifestyle since being on meds) .. its been difficult with the depression but i did manage to lose some weight. But now my depression is really bad and now finding it difficult to go to work and socialise.. even the exercise is slipping. So i want to get back on the meds but i wondered if anyone knew of the least likely meds for weight gain? What are your experiences?

Ps i have obviously discussed this with my GP, two actually, one Doesnt seem to think weight gain matters and i should just go on meds.. but I don’t really trust them.. the other one recommends just exercise and routine.. because he thinks weight gain will be a worse decision.

Do you see a psychiatrist? I work closely with mine and these meds. I've had the issue and come off certain meds due to weight gain. I've told my md straight out I would rather be unbalanced a bit off meds, then face potential medical issues for the weight gain.

It's very difficult to find something in the med category I'm on that doesn't put on weight. But, I've worked with my md on this. She's very supportive of my choice.

I guess it's another trial and error thing. But, we know if we are eating right and exercising that we should have some stability in our weight. So, it's not difficult for the md to see that the meds are the culprit.

I don't agree with your md that says the weight doesn't matter. But, I guess it depends on what the diagnosis is and how safe you are with that diagnosis.

I hope you find something that works. I completely understand the battle.

I don’t see a psychiatrist, most people with depression aren’t refered to psychiatrists in the UK, only if they think it could be something else like bipolar , OCD or PTSD or something do they do that

I see.

I hope there is some resolution for you.

I understand the weight issue and the mental health need.

It's a tough spot to be in.

I wish you the best of luck.

Merry Christmas. 🌲🎅🏻

You might ask your doc about wellbutrin. It is one of the few that doesnt cause wt gain and in some actually decreases appetites. It isnt for everyone. I think it is contraindicated if you have a seizure disorder.

In the UK wellbutrin is only prescribed for quitting smoking, its not approved for depression
