Side effects, cross taper Celexa to Zoloft

I have been on Celexa 40mg for about 10 years. After some trauma resurfaced I had a mental breakdown about 7 months ago. I have GAD with occasional panic attacks but it was under control for several years until recently.

My psychiatrist and I feel that the Celexa is no longer working or at least not as well as it used to. So I am cross tapering to Zoloft.

11 days ago I reduced the Celexa to 35mg and started 25mg Zoloft. No side effects noticed until 4 days ago when I reduced to 30mg Celexa and upped to 50mg Zoloft. Since then I’ve been increasingly more irritable, had some little headaches and even today became panicky. Also feel exhausted physically and mentally.

I really need this switch to go well. I’ve also been seeing a therapist for a few months but it’s not enough help right now.

Anyone else have these kind of side effects with Zoloft? How long did they last?

I really want to push through this and hope it’s only temporary.

Thanks :)

Hello, I went on Zoloft after I built up a tolerance to Prozac, thankfully I had no side affects, I hope your body adjusts to this change over. I finally built up a tolerance to Zoloft after 10 years, and have had a bad time with med's prescribed since then, I am now coming out of a 3 year battle with the depression/anxiety which was really bad. I went on Cymbalta in Sept and have finally found something that works for me. It is a Russian Roulette with antidepressants in my opinion, depends on what works with our brains. I wish you well, I hope the side affects go away, it usually takes about 6 weeks. I send you peace, courage, strength, love hugs and hope. Sprinkle 1.....

Ok I am no doctor but anytime you change or go off meds you can have a reaction. It’s very possible that your doctor upped the dose too quickly with Zoloft. Usually it should be three weeks before you up doses and lower other ones. I will say that Zoloft is an awesome drug for me. I noticed a huge change when I started it. I was on something temporary though so it was like I was starting it fresh. I would talk to your doctor and see what he says. But hopefully you’ll get more used to the Zoloft because it works!

Update: per my doctors instructions I went back to 25mg on day 13. The side effects aren’t as bad but still there a bit. I will now increase the dosage in smaller increments every couple weeks. Hope this works 🤞🏼
