On July 15, 2019 I took my best friend to the Emergency Room. She was admitted and July, August and most of September are a blur to me. I don't want to share too many details to respect her privacy but I will share a bit. She has endured nine surgeries with at least two more to come eventually, spent over a month in ICU and I was terrified I would lose her. We have been friends for almost 50 years. We finish each other's sentences and often communicate without words. Yesterday she was finally transferred to a different hospital where she can get rehab. Her doctor calls her a miracle. I still have her and even though she has a long road ahead to recover I believe in her. There was a time I thought she might not be here for the holidays but she is. That alone is my greatest blessing this holiday season.
