It says that in some states a parent must accompany a minor to the FIRST session. However, after that, the minor is permitted to be alone.

That being said, you needn’t go into full detail during the 1st session.

Also, the parent does need to give consent for treatment for a minor child.

I think the laws vary from state to state, check on that, and as Broken9902 said do not go into full detail in your 1st visit, you need the privacy. I admire you are going to therapy at such a young age, it will help set you up for adult life. As Scott Peck says in his book, "The Road Less Traveled".... Psychiatric is yours alone in the USA. Age does not matter. Ob/gyn is yours alone (male or female) age does not matter except in a few states where diagnosis is withheld.

You should be on your own with a psychiatrist in every state in the USA. I don’t know in UK.

I took my daughter to therapy when she was 10. Other than the beginning of the first session, she was in there by herself.

I don't think so? How is that going to Help you open up if you're Mom is sitting there listening? I wasn't allowed in in the Gyno's office when my daughter had a pap smear done. There are privacy laws. Speak to you're therpst before going? I'm sure she isn't.

Actually when it comes to the gyn if the daughter wants a mom to be the room and requests that she is there during the pelvic exam it is permitted.

No, my daughter had an pelvic exam, she was a minor, she didn't want me in there, I respected that. I didn't believe she was a Virgin, but left it alone.

No, even if you were 10 or 12 years old. Privacy and confidentiality are very serious and the soul of therapy. Even if your mom is the best in the world you have the right to be alone with your therapisto.
