I am at a loss about medications. Has anyone had any success with any meds for anxiety and or depression?

I couldn’t have gotten better without therapy and meds for my Major Anxiety/Depression Disorder. Medications aren’t for everyone. Many people here use other methods and they may share with you.

Which ones and are you still taking?

A 1 mg Xanax in the morning for anxiety. Still weaning off Paxil, so 10 mg in am. At night I have my heart beta blocker, 40 mg Prozac and 2 mg of Abilify. My psychiatrist wants me on these dosages for two more months because they’re working. And before we get rid of Paxil and Xanax, he wants a longer period of stability before we go messing around again. I’m perfectly fine with that, as it took so long to end the breakdown and find correct med combination.

Thank you! Great to hear your new prescripts are working! Do you have a diagnosis other than depression/anxiety?

PTSD plus some medical issues which come along with my age (70).

I am so sorry about the PTSD! Trauma is no joke and informs so many issues. So sorry for what you have endured!

There's that many different medications used to treat depression and anxiety personally I take venlafaxine, quetiapine and diazepam which I find help to manage my depression ive taken citalopram in the past but the venlafaxine has worked the best! Medications work differently in different people if you fallow the directions of the doctor you should get the best result! All the best david

I take Quetiapine and Mirtazapine and have been on this combination since January 2018. I cannot take SSRI medication such as Sertraline or Citalopram. I was also on Venlafaxine which in my opinion worked the best but I sadly decided to self destruct on it and consequently am no longer allowed to take this drug or other SNRI antidepressants. I know you aren't in the UK but you still might find this helpful in explaining about all the different meds available

Self destruct on it? What does that mean? If it was the one that had you feeling the best why woukd you not go back to it?

Because I overdosed on it and damaged my heart in the process so I can't take it anymore. I did to start with but I ended up in hospital with all the symptoms of a heart attack so they had to stop it. I am doing fairly well on Mirtazapine so it's not all bad x
