I dont know how to help my adult son

My 29 year old son has social anxiety. Then he was brutally assaulted about a year ago. He quit his job, rarely answers the phone, has cut all his friends from his life and doesn't seem to be eating well. He rarely leaves his apartment. He is seeing a therapist but she talked him out of going to Roger's Behavioral health for more help. She also told him they'd put him on meds and give him electric shock therapy. I want him to quit seeing her, but then that leaves him completely alone. I drive down to check on him if I don't hear from him after 2 weeks. Help.

I don't understand how it came about that a therapist would say that?
