Getting off psych meds finally...anyone else in this process?

Hi. I am in the process of weaning of powerful psych meds and trying to deal with the withdrawal using coping skills. It's like boot camp for coping, but it's the right thing for me, as after years on the meds, I feel they are no longer helpful.

I'm not against meds as they can help. I just find it weird that there not much out there about coming off.

Is anyone else doing this and needing support?

It can be hard for the brain takes time to get back to balance.

Coping is rough but I feel much freer in general. Having a rough day, but this too shall pass

Peace to all going through the hell of anxiety and depression

I got off antipsychotics one year ago. It was very difficult and scary but I made it. I feel much better now too. Good for you!

from my experience, the process has to be a real slow tapering off medication. If you feel bad from the latest step down start with the previous dose again. Most importantly seek help from your doctor to work out the plan best for you. Your body will not respond in the same way to anyone else. The general guidelines for tapering are a good starting point.

Good for you. I hope the day comes for me. But, it won't be till way down the line if it does.

I have built up some good coping skills. You certainly need those to even think about it.

Best of luck to you. I hope things work out well

Kokobear, I got off 30 years of benzos, 7 years ago. I was fortunate to have a psychiatrist

who specializes in weaning off benzos by using a slow and safe method. The Dr. Ashton

Method from England. It was a slow and small dosage cut every 2 weeks. Never going

back up. It took me 2 years before I was weaned off completely. It was extremely difficult

however I never gave up or gave into the fears it presented me with. I understood that

my brain was going to fight me for it's fix (after 30 years) but continued on, knowing I was

going in the right direction. Never waiver. I used affirmations which strengthened

my beliefs that I could and would get through this.

Today, I'm here to pass my experience forward to the next person willing to get back

control of their life and leave anxiety behind. I wish you well :) xx

I have watched you tube and read a lot about Dr Ashton. Brilliant woman.

Congrats on getting off the benzos.

That's a challenge I will be facing in the future. My expectation is it won't go 100 % smoothly ( nothing does with me and meds)

I can't wait to be where you are. Benzo free :)
