Has anyone done the genetic test that determines what antidepressant is right for you?

I haven’t but I really want to but I read up so much on stuff and I have read so many people it didn’t work for. I think it’s still the same as u just need to try to find the right one by trial and error... I feel like a Guinea pig let me know if you get it done and how it goes

Thanks bee. I'm seeing a new doc this week and may ask about it. I've read the same tho, not that accurate. I will let you know her thoughts and if I do it.

Hello. I have done the testing. It seems to be reasonably accurate. I had tried a couple of meds (Prozac, Zoloft) that were in the yellow zone and they weren't successful at all. The report broke it down into 3 categories: green, yellow, and red, like a traffic light I guess. Green is recommended, yellow ehhhh, and red don't try it. I switched to Cymbalta which was in the green zone and it's been ok, not great, but more helpful than Prozac and Zoloft. However, my doctor sort of deviated from the guide since she doesn't prescribe Xanax for me, when I need one on occasion. Xanax is in the green area, but she prescribes Klonopin and Ativan, which are in the yellow area. I think it's her (or her clinic's) policy that she follows though which disallows her to prescribe Xanax. The Ativan doesn't do anything for me really.

Hope that helps some.

I have had the test. Unfortunately I have to wait two more months for the results. I hope it will be helpful but we'll see.

I'm sorry but this sounds like a way for the companies to get more money especially as in the USA you pay for everything or am I been cynical

Studies have shown that the test is not accurate. Don't waste your money.

Thank you

I have had blood tests done for it, but with subpar results. My doctor mentioned it wasn't earthshattering, so I assumed it wasn't beneficial. I wouldn't give up hope though. Everyone is so different genetically, so it may be helpful for you!

Thank you. It's a lot of money and seems like continued trial and error

in reply to Anxiouslisa

It is and I don't like to discourage anyone if they feel it will help them somehow. But sadly, medication does require a lot of patience and time for accurate results. Hope you're able to figure this out.

Hi, 2 years ago I had the test. 'the result said I should switch from prozac to pristique. I did and has not made any difference. 'very disappointing. Another psychiatrist said it does not help with determining medicadtion.
