Recovery from anxiety disorder is victory over fear. We must stop frightening ourselves to death every 5 minutes. We do this through understanding and reassurance.

Understanding means we no longer face the unknown, anxiety becomes a known quantity, we realise its limitations.

Reassurance means those symptoms are not some terminal illness and we are not going to lose our minds.

We deal with our symptoms not by fearing and fighting them but by accepting them for the moment. Fighting only causes more nervous mayhem and achieves nothing. Acceptance brings the relief of giving up the fight.

When we replace fear with acceptance (for the time being) we stop resensitising our nervous system ten times a day. We regain our quiet mind because our nerves have returned to normal.

Overcoming fear takes time, nothing worthwhile is easily won. But we know for sure that however long or little it takes anxiety disorder has an end.
