Up the dosage

thesunwillcomeout profile image

Hi friends...

I had an appointment with my doctor yesterday and she increased my dosage from 25MG to 50MG of Sertraline. Last night when I was trying to go to bed, my heart was racing and I felt clammy. I barely slept and when I did fall asleep I would wake up my the feeling of a heavy chest. I felt worse. Is this something that gets better or was my body just adjusting to it? I will mention this to my doctor when I revisit in three weeks.

Any feedback is appreciated!

Hi didn't your doctor tell you that you can feel worse until the new dose has got properly into your system? This can take up to 6 weeks or so. x

She didn’t mention feeling worse she just went over possible side effects and when I told her I wasn’t really feeling any, that’s when she increased the dosage.

Hey! We're you feeling nervous about the dose increase beforehand? I know that being anxious about it can cause those sort of reactions. It did in me. Also, when I first started celexa it caused me to feel jittery and tense for a few days. It went away, however, and I'm feeling great. Just stick with it for 30 days unless it causes worse mood changes or suicidal thoughts.

I suppose I thought I didn’t need a dose change because I just started taking medication two weeks before and then it increased. I will continue to take it. I know I was feeling really down when I started the medication first and it got much better after a while. Thanks srivet4! :)

Good luck to you ♥️

Ive been on sertraline for a couple years. I remember they warned me at first I may have nausea, which I did for maybe a week. It is normal to start at 25mg then go to 50 mg, thats still a low dose. Maximum dose is 200 mg. I was recently bumped up from 50 to 100 mg as my depression was worse. If you are taking your sertraline at night, you might switch to morning and see if that helps. At least during the day, your mind is more distracted and you probably wont be as focused on looking for side effects. You will know in 3 weeks how you are doing with it. Sertraline is an older drug and usually well tolerated.
