Totally freaking out

Ok kinda typing this in the middle of a panic so I’m not sure if it will make sense. So I’m a senior and have started to look at colleges. To plan for that I asked my mom to book some campus tours to help me decide what college is best for me. Well she did sign us up for a tour...but it’s totally not what I want at all. We’re in a big group and we have to have meetings with people and talk to people. We have to go to big panel which is something I really really don’t want to do. I haven’t felt this freaked out about something in a long time. I thought that it was a simple tour of the campus! I didn’t know I’d have to go to a panel or plan my college life! I’m not ready for that at all! This is freaking me out so much and it’s like the middle of the night so I can’t do anything about it right now. I’m hoping my mom will understand and cancel the appointment but I’m so scared she will make me go. This is really not my thing and not something I enjoy at all. All I want is a tour of the campus and the department interested in! I don’t want to be told what college life is like and work on my admission! Ugh I’m sorry this is so random and chaotic. I’m just freaking out and I can’t do anything else.

I know it can seem overwhelming but try not to dwell on it tonight. You need some rest.. take deep breaths and try and focus on something else, a book, or an episode of a tv show or something. Is there something else bothering you or is this the main source of stress?

At the moment it’s this. I was just not expecting the breakfast, different panels and the meetings that apparently came with this. I thought it was kinda like a festival sort of thing where me and my mom could look around and do some campus tours. Not a freaking group event! The shock is what is stressing me out the most.

Yeah when you’re expecting something simple and get all of that I’d be a little overwhelmed too.. really it seems like the panels might be the worst part from what I know. Maybe tomorrow make a plan for what to say there and the rest should be a little easier?

You’re welcome. Sometimes just having someone to talk to is all it takes

Not sure if it is an option but maybe see if you could have a friend or family member accompany you. I deal with generalized anxiety and find that just having someone around that I trust in situations that would otherwise make me nervous always helps. If you can't bring someone maybe see if one of your friends could text you during the event and keep you occupied when you are feeling worried. I find all too often that when I worry about something I have to do but feel uncomfortable with that most of the time I am more anxious ahead of it than actually going through with it. I have let anxiety hold me back too long from things that not only I wanted to do but needed to do. You may not feel comfortable in all situations and that's normal but the more you push yourself into uncomfortable situations the less they tend to make you fell anxious about them.
