Hi.I am new to this site and have a query. I've been taking Sertaline for over 3 years and find that I still feel low and very anxious. I find it difficult to relate to my family and friends the way I used to and feel like a zombie all the time. My doctor is very reluctant to change my medication. Have any of you had similar problems with this drug? My user name is primrose81 by the way.

Well maybe he would try upping it a bit? I started on 100 mgs sertraline which didn't help me but when the doctor increased it to 150 mgs the change was miraculous. x

Thank you hypercat54. I love the name! I think I'm currently on 75 ,having gone up from 50. My doctor thinks there is a danger of my becoming too high if the dosage is more but I would do anything to be able to feel the slightest glimmer of joy. I was diagnosed as bipolar 3 years ago but only have had 2 highs in my life whereas the feeling of being low and completely flat continues..Many thanks again for your reply x

No I have not been on mood stabilisers for some time since I was permanently flat and it was thought that they were keeping me down. The only other medication I take is Pregablin for anxiety and Zolpiderm to help with sleep xx

I had a breakdown and went on sertraline. It really helped my depression but noticed after about 3 months my anxiety got worse. I looked it up and anxiety can be a side affect.I weened off it and felt much better , anxiety decreased quite quickly and started a new antidepressant: the new meds put me to sleep and had terrible nightmares, could only bare to take it twice . Went back to docs and I'm trying a new one . So far so good for me. What works for one doesn't necessarily work for another. Talk to your doctor ,as hypercat said , an increase in dosage helped . ❤️

Thanks mumma_h.It is interesting about Sertraline increasing anxiety as I was told the opposite i.e.that it was for depression AND anxiety. It is so confusing but I guess we all react differently.Good luck with the new medication and thanks again X

My doctor told me too that my anxiety will decrease with sertraline, each medication works differently and you'll know if this is the case for you . It can take up to 6 weeks to notice a change.
