Just finished #Whatis Post-Traumatic Growth? A light read, and insightful to some of my own experiences dealing with PTS. Normally, with effective coping strategies, people are able to bounce back from their trauma in a month, a few months.
Unfortunately, physiological factors are making this a little difficult to do on my end this time around. The irony is--my actions fostering growth when I volunteered for an organic farm several years ago actually injured my physical state.
I was also in such disarray a month ago, I accidently burned several areas of my face with chemicals, and some skin is still healing.
The length of time these physical injuries is taking to heal is handicapping my recovery from emotional and psychological wounds.
As part of healing from my burns, I have to avoid going outside. Hasn't been the cheeriest state to be in...
The book identifies a step involved in the path to post-traumatic growth as "telling our story", drawing on human beings' natural desire to make sense of their world through narratives. I often do this in therapy, turning my experiences into a narrative, making sense not only of events and other people, but of myself.
I thought I would start treating this in part as a "growth mind-set journal".
