I've been factoring Reiki into my life as a healing practice. Anyone else familiar with, or practice Reiki?

pianoplayer90, I have used Reiki on many occasions and have found it so

helpful. There's nothing quite like the calm feeling after a session. :)

I've been trying to find other approaches to dealing with depression than talk therapy. It doesn't seem to address the underlying issues. I had a therapist tell me "it is what it is" in response to my issues, which would depress me rather than help me find peace with my situation.

I had one session couple years ago in South America while I was on vacation and it was amazing !

If you have the opportunity to do it go for it 😉

My chiropractor totally believes in Reiki. She was learning to be a healer. My mind never allowed me to believe, so I never got much from it. I also have a hard time believing in church/faith. Accupuncture helped, though.

Hi Lazydoglover, Accupuncture helped me as well. It's all about finding

what works for each one of us but you're right in that you do have to

believe it's going to help. That's probably the biggest factor. xx

I get acupuncture. It's been helpful to me too.

My uncle is an acupuncturist and massage therapist. Got both from him--they only seemed to put me in more physical pain. Even had trouble sleeping after a couple sessions. So, I'm a little wary of either. Thanks for the suggestion, though!

I've been trying to learn how to do reiki on myself. I wish I could afford to go to reiki treatments.

Agora1 in reply to Cathy63

Cathy, I don't know if it is possible to do it on yourself. I agree that the cost of each

session is expensive. Last night I went to YouTube and watched some Reiki sessions

done by accredited therapists. Maybe it might be a way in relaxing you.

I will say, in the few that I've had in the past, the feeling of calm was incredible but

for me didn't last long. xx

Udemy had a sale and I bought a course on Reiki. I've been reading on self-healing, and it's been fascinating. I think it has been helping. Also starting sleeping on a vibrational therapy mat, and I've been feeling better as a whole, amazingly.

Reiki is a great treatment if you have the means to do it as often as is recommended. Tai Chi is also a great way to do it on yourself in a matter of speaking. Those are both energy healing...

bjones, I agree...yes I was into Tai Chi as well. Much more reasonable

at a park district or night classes. Very relaxing. Thanks for sharing xx

Qigong is great too.

That’s what I’m doing. Wild goose 1st 64! It’s been amazing!

pianoplayer, I just thought of another method I found very helpful.

Self hypnosis. Again it was expensive but I just went for several sessions

and then used the videos on YouTube. Once you have the knowledge

in how to get into a deep state of relaxation, you can do it on your own.

Just a thought. xx

Are there any YouTube videos you recommend? I recently started putting the healing meditation ones on before I go to sleep. They help me relax so I can fall asleep.

Hi Cathy63, not a day goes by that I don't tune into YouTube. They have the greatest

videos I've found over the years. Just a matter of finding the voices that calm and relax

you into a deep sleep or peaceful feeling.

"Sleep Meditation: Release worry Guided Hypnosis" by Jason Stephenson

"Calm down guided Meditation Gentle Soul" by Sleep Easy Relax Peaceful Meditation

"Sinking & slowing Breathing Meditation" by Quiet Mind Café

Those are just a few, I have a whole repertoire of meditations and keep finding new

ones. Hope you find what works for you. Peace & Calm.... Namaste Cathy :) xx

Thanks! YouTube is one of my favorite channels. I watch it every morning. I used to start the day with the news, but with all the terrible things happening locally and around the world, it was upsetting me too much. Not a good way to start the day. Now I educate myself with helpful and uplifting videos. I'll try the ones you mentioned. I do a lot of yoga and qigong with the help of great instructors. Have you watched Yin & Yang Living? The speaker's name is Moon. She has a good and uplifting channel. Namaste.

I will certainly look into Yin & Yang Living by Moon. Like you I use YouTube in learning as well as finding uplifting videos. And it's Free :) xx

Thanks again Cathy

Udemy had a sale recently and I bought a course on Reiki for $19.99. Thought it was a bargain. It's been really educational on self-healing. I found a practitioner near me who is 7 generations removed from Usui, and I was going to give her try, but I burned my face in an accident and have been recovering from that for the past week.

Agora1 profile image
Agora1 in reply to pianoplayer90

pianoplayer, I am so very sorry about your accident. I do hope you will heal soon

and the pain of the burns will subside. Please let us know when you start your

Reiki sessions. Wishing you well :) xx

I love thehonestguys on YouTube. I also tried some long-distance Reiki healing videos on YouTube, and I could feel some of the sensations the practitioner described, such as tingling and heat in areas of my body! As soon as I am able to, I will give an in-person session a go.

pianoplayer, thehonestguys are great...Did you happen to know that he was

one of our members who choose to go on his own?? He has quite a following

being good at what he does. :) xx

Hi Piano player, I am a reiki master, and practice self reiki whenever I feel the need. I also practice crystal healing and meditation, all are wonderful and bring peace and harmony into my life. Xx

Thank you xx

Agora1 in reply to Skatergirl1

It's been so long since I've had Reiki done that I've lost contact with

the master. Is there a safe way to find someone in my area who can

do Reiki? (Chicago) Thanks Skatergirl1 :) xx

Skatergirl1 profile image
Skatergirl1 in reply to Agora1

Agora1, sorry I don't know anyone in Chicago, although it is a great city that I have visited, I am in the UK. Have you tried Google for that area? I have been fortunate that people have just appeared, so to speak, in my life when I have needed them. Send thoughts to the universe of reiki, and you will be surprised when you meet new people that they have the skill. Did you know that you can receive distant healing reiki from anywhere in the world?

Agora1 profile image
Agora1 in reply to Skatergirl1

Thank you so much Skatergirl, I appreciate your help. I may try the hospital again

where I got my first referral. She was working with patients. I will also try Google.

Thanks for taking the time to respond and have yourself a beautiful weekend. :) xx

Skatergirl1 in reply to Agora1

Agora1 thank you and you are welcome x. I will be happy to send you distant healing (I don't charge for my work) just let me know, so we can sinc on day and time, and anyone else is welcome to healing x

Been looking into crystal healing as well!

Has anyone tried cranialsacral massage? I am going to be trying it for the the first time next week and wondered if anyone has had experience with it.

Are there actual studies showing that it works? I hear some people say it's pseudoscience, is unethical when other treatments are available, and only works as a placebo. Others say there is science to back it up? Anyone know what actual studies have been done on this?

pianoplayer90 profile image
pianoplayer90 in reply to mvillarreal

I think it's more of a spiritual practice than a pseudoscience...while religion and science can sometimes be at odds, I don't think spirituality needs science to back it up. The Udemy course I purchased includes an article on "Science and the Human Energy Field." For example, whenever we measure the electrical activity of the brain, we are measuring energy. I personally approach Reiki as more of a spiritual practice, and certainly believe that mental health and physical health are related. Improving mood and outlook can have positive effects on physical health.

mvillarreal profile image
mvillarreal in reply to pianoplayer90

Has there ever been a study that compares Reiki to a placebo treatment? If so, do you know what the results showed?

pianoplayer90 profile image
pianoplayer90 in reply to mvillarreal

Again, I think you are misunderstanding what Reiki is. It's intended to improve health in a similar way that yoga, or being around people with good energy does. You don't need studies for those. It's not a medication intended to treat a specific disease.

mvillarreal profile image
mvillarreal in reply to pianoplayer90

But there are ways to study yoga and relationships scientifically too to determine what benefits are really derived from these.
