Okay guys, so as you can see from my other posts I got a new job. I go to orientation in a few days, and I’m super fucking nervous about it. I’m just really hoping that I absorb as much information as I can and that I do well. I’m so nervous because I don’t know what to expect and I’m not sure I’m going to perform well at the job. It’s a simple cashier job but still, I tend to freeze up at work when I encounter a situation that makes me panic. I just want to do well and make money and have a purpose. Is that too much to ask? But really, I’m so nervous and overcome with feelings of worthlessness that I just don’t know if I’m going to be able to get through the job and perform to the best of my ability. I also have a lip piercing and I’m not sure if they’re going to tell me I can’t have it. Ughhhh so many things I’m worried about. I’ve been going to outpatient group therapy session 3 times a week for a few weeks and that seems to be helping, but I’m just so unsure of myself in this new job. I just don’t know what to do. Someone help

Really anxious about new job
Starting a new job makes everybody somewhat anxious. Your feelings are normal. Most of the time, people will not expect the new person at work to know everything right away. They will probably cut you some slack and not expect too much in the beginning. Use that time to ask questions and really learn how to perform the tasks of your job.
I really understand what your feeling. Last night I was filling out a job application and on question 83 I had a anxiety attack and cried for the whole night couldn’t stop. I felt that I wasn’t smart or good enough for the job and my parents kept telling I was but that didn’t make me change my mind. I feel that same way you do. Today my mom mentioned that I would be a good bagger when I was putting bags into the cart and I cried. I really think you will do a good job and to have confidence. Also when you feeling stressed to breathe and close your eyes even if it sounds stupid or say I need a minute to collect your thoughts and calm down. I’ve never had a job before so I can’t really help with that I’m sorry but I can relate.
Can you find something to distract yourself, like watching a movie or something? Everybody is at least a little nervous when they start a new job. Turning this over and over in your head is only wearing you out for no reason. The important thing is that they hired you - it's all downhill from here. It's just a matter of learning the job now. If you don't understand something, just politely ask them about it. After your first day there, you will be so relieved - like the world was taken off your shoulders. Believe me, you'll be fine!
