Today I have to participate in a telephone hearing to determine if I’m eligible for unemployment money. The memo said it’s to determine if I was fired due to misconduct.
I was *not* fired for misconduct. When my supervisor gave me the bad news, he even admitted as much. I never got written up or had any disciplinary action taken against me.
I’m also trying to organize a move - my boyfriend and I are attempting to reconcile, and we plan for me to move in with him in 2.5 weeks.
I can’t afford to live in my own apartment by myself without a job, so this will help with that.
I’m dealing with the anxiety this morning, for sure.
What if my unemployment claim gets denied?
What if I don’t find a job for a long time?
What if things go badly between me and my bf?
I’m scared right now.

Please don't waste your time on the what if's..they haven't happened...focus on all the positive right now...I'm behind you...you're special..there's only one you!!!
Dump trucks of love, peace, light, joy and hugs for you!!!
If they deny you, you appeal
You will find another job
Try to remain positive
It will be wise to explain to them your actively job seeking, and your suffering with anxiety too, just so they have a good idea the situation your in.
Thank you for answering me. I’m still scared, though. I just want to go back to bed and sleep through the rest of my life. I’ve had about all I can take the past few years. I just want things to be better again in my life.
I just got off the phone from this telephone hearing. It was tough; and I don’t totally agree with the company’s version of events.
They said I failed to respond to a self-review request back in June; but I’m positive I filled it out and emailed it to HR.
They also said there was a meeting between me, the supervisor, and HR to discuss my performance, and that’s not accurate. The supervisor took me aside one time to verbally talk about stepping up my game; but HR was not present.
Was you sacked or made redundant ? Were you a permanent member of staff and how long did you work there ? It sounds like your old workplace are trying to wriggle out of something if their version of events don't match yours
I was there for 2.5 years, and the reason I was given was “lacks the technical knowledge needed.” However, up until that time, nobody told me specifically to improve anything.
All I know is that I feel terrible - I feel like I wasn’t good at my job and I’m doubting my ability to get another job.
I apply to probably 10 or 12 jobs a week, and for a while I was getting callbacks and even interviews; but now I’m not hearing back from anybody and that’s worse.
I’m so scared I’ll have to go crawling back to live with my father .... never live like an adult again. This is so shaming.
In the U.S.? Ha! Not nearly enough union activity exists. I was considered a “professional” and we don’t get unions at all. The employer has almost total power here.
Well they have most certainly done something wrong because they are lying, people only lie when they are covering something up. You will get another job, are you on LinkedIn ? I get loads of emails about roles from there
Why wouldn't you ??? Go into your linkedin add some more skills, make sure all the right search words are in your skills area and even start adding companies that you employ people with your skills. I havent took an employee role since 2013 and every week I have people emailing me with opportunities. My daughter got work within days of joining LinkedIn, I think the more skills you list, the more your profile shows up.
Indeed is also good and you can set your profile so that employers see it. You’re gonna find something!! Job searches are the worsr, but fake it until you make it and go in With confidence!!
Good luck on the job hunt! I hope your former employer doesn’t fight you on unemployment, but if they do you should get an attorney to help you appeal it.
