I've had anxiety for a few years and it's the worse it's ever been right now and it's because I have that same awful feeling where I can't catch my breath. It feels like my throat is closing up sometimes, which then causes me to panic. I have one trigger that I know of, but the rest of the time my attacks come out of nowhere. A couple of suggestions that I've gotten from here is to go outside in the fresh air and try to breathe easily again. It really does help and can hold off an attack. Now the tricky part is keeping your mind relaxed so when you're ready to go back inside it doesn't start all over again. Try to do something that will keep you distracted until you're able to fall asleep again. Hopefully it'll help you.
