Has anyone been told that anxiety can cause shortness of breath every day? I am exhausted from standing. I go through better times and then it comes on again, but gets better after a few weeks. It comes and goes...I do worry about death a lot.

Yes. I often have the same thing happen. And it is exhausting!! I am so sorry that you are feeling that way. What I find helps is to do something easy that takes no focus. For example, watch tv, but an episode you have already seen so you do not have to pay attention to it. It is a real calmer.

Hope you feel better!

Thank you! Stress makes me worse! I worry a lot about dying because not feeling well makes me anxious and then i get very angry and moody

Meds have not helped me i was on abilify but so bad for me i got off. I am afraid to take drugs but xanax helps. I feel like i have chronic lyme and it causes the anxiety symptoms...

Hi. Stress is not good for anxiety prone people. I take Paxil - took about 8-10 weeks for it to quiet down the anxiety. I don't suffer like before these meds. I take xanax at night to sleep along with another med. Much better now.

I have the same thing. I take deep breaths and know I can breathe but feel like my diaphragm isn't working then I panic and irrational thoughts start coming. I start thinking that maybe something is wrong and I am going to die from it because I am ignoring signs. It's scary for sure. Been off work 3 months because of it now

why worry about death? What about death scares you enough to cause you so much anxiety?

The journey to death scares me!

you are afraid of life? Life is the journey to death! I think you need do some reading on life and why you don't need to be afraid of it.

Can you recommend some reading?

I will be honest with you. I think it is best to look inwards to ask oneself questions about these fears and counter them with facts. For example, no human was ever made a promise of immortality. Matter of fact humans have no clue what immortality even looks or feels like, or whether it is even possible. Given our biological make up, immortality is literally impossible. Death is a guarantee. So why be afraid of that which comes to you with a guarantee, longing instead for that which you know can never be?

I am afraid of suffering...this is the journey i fear

if you are here, you are already suffering. Be honest with yourself! If you have a mental illness that impacts your quality of life what do you call that? A vacation? It's suffering and you are already experiencing it so what are you really afraid of?

The suffering from anxiety is not suffering with a horrible illness...different

Kobojunkie profile image
Kobojunkie in reply toAmayla

what is a horrible illness? Do you consider anxiety or panic attack mild?

Amayla profile image
Amayla in reply toKobojunkie

OMG this was so me a couple of weeks ago I've had so many tests done that it's crazy.I had shortness of breath and I would get really dizzy like I would faint(but I never did ) till I got an ecocardiogram and the cardiologist told me my heart was fine(I thought I had Heart problems and I would die of them). Since then I've felt better. I used to get chest pain to and that has gone away to. So in the en it's good to get a really good check up at the doctors office why? It helps calm your mind. I've gotten better and I know you will too.
