When I first started treatment for depression, I took Prozac, too. It did not work for me either. After trying several different ones, I finally found that Wellbutrin works pretty good at keeping the depression away. However, I experienced a fairly flat life, neither laughing nor crying. That was 1996. Since I started treatment because of a suicide attempt, I really didn't want to try anything that might be better; afraid it wouldn't work, and I'd try again. Then, this summer I broke. While being put back together, Abilify was added to the Wellbutrin. Suddenly, I could laugh out loud, cry my eyes out for whatever emotion, dance, sing, crack jokes. I could be all the things my husband married me for!
So, now I take 450mg Wellbutrin, and 2.5mg Abilify each morning. It has been 6 months, and I feel this is my life now. I am also starting Cognitive Behavior Therapy to help get rid of some old anxiety habits, and deal with former triggers should they happen again. I now don't relate to the person I was before this summer! All because of 2.5mg of Abilify.
I understand that you have reached a point where you should be seeing some positive results from the Prozac. Since you aren't, I encourage you to see your Dr to see what can be done. Your prior posts have been heart breaking. You deserve and need help. And, please be completely open with your Dr about all your problems. Dr's can't do a good job unless they completely understand what they're dealing with.
Breathing exercises helps a lot. I take Seroxat and Xanax now. I tried Prozac too but it ended up really badly, it didn’t work for me, it actually made me feel worse and I ended up in hospital due to serious side effects.
If you think your medication doesn’t work (and by the way you speak I think it doesn’t - sorry) you should really talk to your therapist to discuss further therapy. This one obviously doesn’t work
Also try to distract yourself as much as you can, I find that works for me usually, by doing something I enjoy or spending time with people I’m comfortable with I find it lot easier
A breathing exercise is to inhale and count to 4 seconds, hold 4 seconds, exhale 4 seconds and hold 4 seconds and repeat. Have you tried yoga? Have you tried volunteering? Do you exercise or have any self-care rituals? Be good to yourself. Everyone deserves to be loved, cherished and respected.
