I like GNC 5mg melatonin. You dissolve it under your tongue. Knocks me out.
I took 10 my once and felt a little off and a bit groggy before sleep and upon waking. I have taken 3 mg more regularly. It doesn't quite knock me out but it does a little number on me without all the grogginess. I imagine this dose would do the trick if you're having issues sleeping. I have read that our doses are a little bit overkill given that a single mg should be enough from the few studies available. My own doctor said 3-5 mg (I'm about 235 pounds). Unfortunately the FDA doesn't really test supplements here in the States so we can only guess what's enough for sleep.
If you're concerned, I'd take half and see how you feel. Better to start with less than too much. 10 mg should be fine without issue, but if you're taking any other depressants like opioids, barbiturates, narcotics, or tranquilizers, you'll want to exercise some caution and probably consult your pharmacist/doctor before taking a maximum type dose.

i've tried melatonin and it didnt work for me at all. i did speak to my dr about it and she told me that it will make you fall asleep but not keep you asleep
