Looking for Advice

I am in grad school and I feel that I have lost all drive and motivation for school and I’m finding it very hard to get my work done. Everyday I intend to be productive after work but I can’t bring myself to do anything. Does anybody have any suggestions for what I can do to come out of this? Please send help 😫

Losing motivation, and losing the ability to concentrate and cope are classic symptoms of depression. I hope you are seeking medical treatment.

Have you tried going to the gym straight after work or doing yoga to re-energise? Yoga works for me. I can be totally exhausted do an hour of yoga and i'm pepped up for the evening. Maybe you just need something to energise you so you can get your studying done. Also make sure your diet is balanced and good and take multi vitamins especially the B vitamins. And eat bananas and fish ( the latter if you are not vegetarian) If you are vegetarian you need to make especially sure you are getting all the protein and magnesium and potassium you need through a variety of foods such as pulses quinoa and so on.

Also I agree with above reply that if it goes beyond this and re-energising in the normal way isn't working then it may be worth seeking some medical advice and/or student counselling.

Hope this helps :)

Thank you, I appreciate this!

Me too brickk. I’m only two weeks into a transition to teaching program and I find myself asking “what was I thinking”. There is so much work to do and I have so little motivation. You are not alone!!

I agree with what the others have said about trying to get help first and also to try to work out when you get home. I've found that I prefer to study in the morning so I get up early and do my work then and then when I come home I'm able to exercise and relax. I also try to focus on an area that I'm really interested in when I am having hard time motivating myself to study. Then I do a topic that intimidates me or doesn't interest me as much, repeat.

I am sorry you are going through this. I deal with the same thing. Finding motivation can be very difficult. What I have found that helps me is to get outside a little a day and to exercise! Exercise is the best thing for me. Try this for a little while and see if it helps you. I hope it does!

Thank you! I’ve been making time for the gym the past couple weeks and I’m feeling much better. I love working out and it’s a great stress relief for me
