Looking for support

Hi. I recently just went back to school full-time and I am finding it difficult to cope with my anxiety. It seems like it’s always there. I know that I worry too much, but it’s hard to shut it off. I’m just looking for some support.

Hey Diyguy! Welcome to our group.

I’m so sorry to hear about your struggles. I am a full time college student and I work as well. The first few weeks of going back to school I attempted to keep up way too hectic of a schedule and it was just ridiculous. So I had to learn my limits, drop a few on campus classes, and add an online class. My advice to you is to realize your limits and act on them. There is nothing worse then overloading yourself to the point where you can hardly function and the best way we can prevent that is realizing our limitations. Also know that these limits are not permanent they’re just what your mind needs at this moment in time so that you can heal.

You’ve got this!

Thank you for your kind words and advice. It’s really helpful as I have difficulties opening up. I’ll definitely try to be aware of my limits. Thank you again.

I’m proud of you for going back to school! It is overwhelming and exciting even for someone who doesn’t suffer from anxiety. Try not to make too many changes all at once. So, don’t introduce a new diet or another new routine all at the same time. Try to focus on the task at hand and not let thoughts of the whole to-do list overwhelm you. And welcome to the group!

Thank you for the advice. I sometimes do think it is just me being overwhelmed. It’s hard for me to think outside myself. I think you are right about not trying to change too many things at once. That’s what I’ve been doing. I’ll ease up a bit. Thanks again.

I am in nursing school so I can relate to the school stress... there’s a few things I want to point out

1. You’re awesome for going back to school full time. That In itself is so hard .. I find it helpful to write a list of thing I need or want to get done that week and simply cross the things off when they are completed! It helps calm my anxiety to see what all I have accomplished that day!

2. Some anxiety is healthy, it allows you to get stuff done and other things but then there is excessive or intense anxiety which can be crippling... identify which one it is

3. If it’s the intense anxiety look up coping skills to help! For me, pausing and shutting my eyes for a few minutes and deep breathing really helps me. Mediating before bed also helps me! There are many things that can be done to help so you should look into that!!!

I’m glad you shared and are looking for support. What you do is not easy and it’s nice to know others can relate to you! Let me know if there’s anything I can do to help you out!!

Thanks for replying. Yes school is hard and I do lose sight of the fact that it’s that way for almost everyone. I like the ideal of the weekly list. I am going to try it. As for taking care of the overwhelming anxiety. I have been taking a bit more time for myself as of late. I do do the closed eyes and breathing thing and it does help a lot when I remember that it does help. Thanks for the pep talk. I appreciate it.

I am feeling a little better. Thank you.

You e had good advice given deep breathing into your side of ribs helps make a routine of peace time where you’re alone and it can be buying a muffin relaxing listening to ocean waves whatever. And give yourself a routine after school that you look forward too-that has nothing to do school or friends if energy sucking make it just you time & organize your routines. Congrats on school !!

Make sure that you're taking time out of each day to allow yourself to breathe in life. Allow for a few minutes of quiet or anything that reflects self-car/love. Full time school is practically a job, but don't get lost in the daily grind. You've got this!
