Where to begin

Hi, I’m new here. I’ve been battling mental illness for a while now and I’m glad I came across this app. It’s nice to know that we are not alone.

Interested in getting some suggestions, hearing others stories, support groups, what’s helped for you, and where to begin on this journey to a happier life.

Welcome.

Support groups have been helpful for me. If for nothing else, it gets me out of the house. You can google support groups to see in there are any in your area. They are usually peer led so the aren't professionals present. It is just people sharing whatever is on their mind.

Thank you. I have been researching some groups. I usually spend a lot of time alone and would love to interact with others struggling with the same illness.

Hi Britt,

Some suggestions to try include meditation, deep relaxation and deliberately slowing down your breathing. If you aren’t seeing a therapist I highly recommend it. A therapist can work with you on your underlying issues in a non-judgemental way.

One think to understand about anxiety is that it’s not a disease but a disorder. There is nothing physically wrong with your brain. It’s behaving the way it is because of the way you have trained it. The good news is that the brain can be trained to learn new positive behaviours and unlearn negative ones. It’s not a quick or simple process though which is why working with a therapist can be really helpful.

You came to the right place. I stumbled upon this app a few weeks ago and it’s helped me so much. I feel less alone. I’ve been struggling with really bad anxiety the past few months and I’ve gotten so much support from people here.
