Movement helps

This morning I woke up feeling more anxiety than normal. I was scared to get out of bed. I meditated then I pushed myself to do some exercise: stretching, deep breaths, movement. it helped lift my mood and I ended up having an ok day. I need to remember that exercise is important. Even 15 minutes of simple movement (stretching) gets the blood flowing. I tell myself that exercise activates my medication. Anyway I just wanted to share in case it helps someone. I have to remember to practice self care. It’s hard for me to take time to do something positive for myself because I’m usually too wrapped up in the negative.

Peace and love to you all. You are strong.

Does anyone know why movement helps exactly? I think it does but have been curious about the science behind it, if there is any. Or are we just distracting ourselves?

When you exercise you release endorphins into your brain that make you feel good. So it is a very good idea to do regular exercise if you have anxiety or depression.

Jimmyjimmy has a good answer that mirrors what my Dr has told me. If 15 min sounds like too much exercise then try for 10, or 5 or even two minutes. Any movement is better than none. Have a great day/evening.

Yoga is very good too!

I agree! I use some of the poses I learned in yoga class years ago. Nothing too strenuous. If the exercise is too hard then I won’t be motivated to do it ever.
