I'm unsure if anyone has answered this question for me yet. You may have, and I apologize if you have. Do people hear me hearing sounds, or see me pay attention to their body movements?

How would people hear you hearing sounds? Your brain registering sound, smell, taste, touch, etc. happens silently and internally.

What do you mean by it happens silently? And can people see me, see them move?

I don't know what you're asking. People have a number of senses, like touch and sight. People can see and touch things: these things are external and observable. People also have thoughts and ideas, like 'I don't like this movie', and, 'Are Spanish and French words similar to other Latin words?' These are internal and not-observable. They can only become external and observable if you act upon them (jumping on a chair if you see a mouse, for instance, implies a fear of mice) or verbalize them (saying: , 'I think French and Spanish are similar, what do you think?'). Likewise your experience of the external, ie-what you personally experience when you see a robin, or what cotton feels like to you when you touch it; these become internal.

so if i see someone move their body...thats an internal experience?

cashew78 profile image
cashew78 in reply to EricJones

What do you think?

EricJones profile image
EricJones in reply to cashew78

i wouldn't ask you if i knew the answer....i really have no clue

cashew78 in reply to EricJones

we can't answer all your questions; that's not the goal of support. You have to find your own answers for your life. Because it's your life, not ours. Otherwise your just blindly following someone else's expectations and life. Trust your insights, keep an open mind, and understand that there's a balance involved.

cashew78 in reply to cashew78

Better question for you; why do you need to know the answer.

EricJones profile image
EricJones in reply to cashew78

because it helps me pinpoint whats causing me anxiety and if i can know that its an internal experience i wont be so paranoid as to whether people cant tell that i'm paying attention to them.

i'm just asking questions Cashew78...if you dont want to answer them all then pick the ones you want to and leave the others alone

Eric, the answer to you’d question is No.

Hi Eric, I could be wrong, but yes, I think you have asked this before. If this worry keeps bothering you, it might be helpful to find a therapist to help you figure out what's going on.

EricJones profile image
EricJones in reply to Nothing_but_books

i know it would be helpful to find a therapist...i come on this website to find more clarity than just a therapist, if its possible to get any.

Eric, does anyone in your family suffer from what you’re asking about? Maybe it’s a genetic thing or just a case of learned paranoia.

EricJones profile image
EricJones in reply to Charlie-mg

not that I know of...i got this all on my own.

Charlie-mg profile image
Charlie-mg in reply to EricJones

If I were you, I’d check with my parents and siblings (if possible) just to rule it out.

i'm adopted

Charlie-mg profile image
Charlie-mg in reply to EricJones

Oh okay well it could still be a learned behavior. A diagnosis from a MD is needed and therapy will give you a safe place to work through it. You’re not crazy because you’re aware of what’s going on. You’re just in ultra-awareness mode. Try to relax your mind. I read you play basketball and run. Keep that up, it’ll take your mind off it all and calm your senses.👍

People won't be able to hear the sounds you hear in your head. Unless their hearing is superhuman or science has learned something new that I don't know about. Apparently a person using a stethoscope on someone with Tinnitus was able to hear what they were hearing. This is something I read once, whether it's true or not, who knows... People can see you paying attention to their body movements if you make it obvious. Hope this answers your question.

EricJones profile image
EricJones in reply to ACE135

so they'd be able to tell if you looked at them while they were moving around or something? other than that they couldn't if you saw them moving while you were on your phone or something?

ACE135 profile image
ACE135 in reply to EricJones

If you looked directly at them and they looked directly at you, then they would be able to tell that you were looking at them. If you looked at them through your peripheral vision, then they wouldn't be able to tell that you're looking at them. Hope that makes sense.

EricJones profile image
EricJones in reply to ACE135

yeah thats what i normally do...look through my peripheral vision and not directly at them. "People won't be able to hear the sounds you hear in your head" you said in your head..did you mean that people wouldn't be able to hear the sounds I hear in my head or the sounds I hear from outside of my head?

ACE135 profile image
ACE135 in reply to EricJones

People won't be able to hear the sounds in your head. Sounds created externally can be heard by many people but will be interpreted differently depending on level of hearing quality and distance from sound. Your personal interpretation of a sound created externally will not be heard by other people.

EricJones profile image
EricJones in reply to ACE135

so is that a complicated way of saying people cannot hear what i am hearing?

ACE135 profile image
ACE135 in reply to EricJones

Yes, people cannot hear what you are hearing. I wanted to explain it logically to give you clarity, not make it complicated 🙂

If you're studying someone they are probably going to notice. If that's what you mean.

Let me ask you this... do you hear other people's hearing? Do you see other people seeing things? I think your question is kind of odd. Unless maybe you have schizophrenia. We all have our own brains with sense of sight, sound, etc. No one is listening to our brains or seeing through our eyes. It sounds like you need to see a doctor if you are having these strange thoughts and questions. This group is for anxiety and depression and most of us know we have anxiety and depression and are just seeking support for our issues in common. I'm sorry if that sounds harsh. Just trying to be honest here.

EricJones profile image
EricJones in reply to

we dont judge here....my question is "odd", my (strange thoughts), can stay to you, and you only. Are you trying to help me or just bash on me?

in reply to EricJones

I think everyone in this group has tried to help you with supportive suggestions but we all think you need to see a therapist and a psychiatrist and maybe even get on some medication.

EricJones profile image
EricJones in reply to

Have a therapist, see my psychiatrist June 4th and am already on meds that don't seem to be working but...there you go.

I don't think they know you are hearing sounds. People do notice how you look though. I've been caught several times staring for a long time and maybe someone gets freaked out by it. Most of the time I think we are fine as long as we are not talking to ourselves

Cpearl profile image
Cpearl in reply to April2024

I have to ask, what is wrong with talking to ourselves?

in reply to Cpearl

I agree Cpearl. I talk to myself all the time. Always have. All my life I've had people ask me who I'm taking to. I even talk to my dog! lol

Cpearl profile image
Cpearl in reply to

I talk to my dog too!lol And to myself, my mom always called it thinking out loud.... lol

in reply to Cpearl

Yes, my mother called it thinking out loud too.

EricJones profile image
EricJones in reply to

now what if i would have said that was strange or odd to you, for talking to yourself?

in reply to EricJones

That's fine if you say it is strange or odd. I'm used to it. I'm 61 years old and have been talking to myself all my life. You seem to have a problem with everyone's answers to your questions in this group. Maybe this isn't the right place for you.

No Eric. They don't. That's what your mind makes you to believe but it's not true.

EricJones profile image

so people cant seem me see them move or hear what i hear. At the same time i can't know what they hear or see them see movements that I made?

Teaching profile image
Teaching in reply to EricJones

They don't.

Gramas profile image

I think you’re hyper sensitive to sounds and movements but I don’t know why. No one can hear what you hear in your head. They can only hear external stimuli just as you do. Try not to be concerned with others movements or your own for that matter. Just concentrate on what you are doing at that time. And by concentrate I don’t mean worry about your movements or actions, focus on the activity you're involved in, i.e. looking at your phone, playing a sport etc. Good luck to you.

EricJones profile image
EricJones in reply to Gramas

I don't hear things in my head I hear sounds out in the real world...and I'm wondering if people can hear me hear those external sounds. Are people concerned about my movements or do they just ignore them?

cashew78 profile image
cashew78 in reply to EricJones

question; why do you think people are paying close attention to you? do you feel this way at all times? If you feel that people are fixated on you then I suggest to proactively bring it up in your therapy appointment. If you suspect people can hear what you experience internally when you hear a sound, please also mention that in therapy. You've been asking the same questions and getting the same answers from the people here kind enough an answer, but they're not appropriate answers to what you're asking because no one here is medically trained.

EricJones profile image
EricJones in reply to cashew78

I'm starting to think you have an issue with my post or something

Gramas profile image
Gramas

People can't hear what you hear, only you can. People are not concerned about your movements, everyone is pretty much focused on themselves and what they have going on at the time.

EricJones profile image
EricJones in reply to Gramas

So I'm safe no one's gonna try and figure out what I'm doing or up to or if I'm weird or not?

Gramas profile image
Gramas in reply to EricJones

Nope, everyone is way too concerned with themselves to pay attention to you.
