Risperidone is not for depression

Antipsychotic

It can treat schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and irritability caused by autism.

In some cases it is used to treat depression. I have looked it up and while it was created as a anti psychotic it is also used for depression and anxiety.

Risperdone is an antipsychotic. It was the first medication my daughter who has bipolar was put on when she was 6. It works well for some people. The one side effect is an increase in prolactin. It can cause breast growth and lactation. So keep up with your blood work.

It most certainly has side effects. I was on a very low dose and I gained almost 100 lbs in less than 5 years. I know what you think, that's not much. I never weighed anything before I started taking this drug. I got off this med with a doctor's help and lost just about all of that. I feel like a new me. Try getting on something that does not have really bad side effects.

Thanks for the advice. I've only done 2 days but already feel uneasy about being on it. Calling the doc tomorrow and telling him I don't want to be on it anymore.
