Habenoo, amitriptyline is a very effective anti-anxiety anti-depression medication if taken in the right amount and so long as you are willing to wait 4-5 weeks for the benefit to start working in full.
It has been around since the 1960s so its short and long term side effects are well known and they are minimal.
It went out of favour when Prozac and ssris came along but recently amitriptyline has come back into favour because of its few side effects.
An effective dosage is 75 to 100mg daily taken before sleep, maximum recommended dose is 150mg a day.
Please give it time to work, we are all impatient for immediate relief, but it's worth waiting for.
I took it for many years and it was very helpful. I hope that you soon feel the relief from anxiety that it will surely bring you.
