So my psychiatrist has prescribed me effexor and trazadone for panic attacks and insomnia and im terrified to take effexor I've been reading everywhere that it is one of the most unsafe antidepressants and that it doesn't work, what are your guys opinions on it and has it ever worked for any of you? Thanks for your time

Effexor and trazadone questions
It was my experience that Effexor worked pretty well for my depression and had more or less the usual sexual side effects but I remember them being bearable unlike some others I’ve been on.
What made me stop taking it was it made my blood pressure skyrocket. Granted I already was bordering on being put on blood pressure medication and I am now anyway but I would imagine it’s worth a shot. What I tell everyone when I talk about my experiences with medicine is that YOU know your body best. If you don’t like how something makes you feel speak up. It might be that some of the side effects will level out over a few weeks and be more tolerable but if you don’t think the benefits outweigh the side effects talk to your doctor as soon as you can and don’t be afraid to stand your ground.
I took Effexor for 14 years and it was the best antidepressant I have ever taken but it suddenly stopped working so am on Sertraline now but it doesn’t help me nowhere near as much as Effexor did but then everybody responds differently to these drugs.
Good luck and I hope they work for you 🤞
It works great for some. The biggest downside is withdrawal side effects(flu-like) that happen quickly even if you miss one dose sometimes so you have to be a good medication taker to take it. Sometimes I view all these meds like a bunch of keys and we are the locks. you don't know which key will work until you try them sometimes.
If it were me Effexor wouldn't be my first choice. The withdrawal was hell and the night sweats were gross. It was really hard to stop taking it without being too dizzy to drive and get sick. But everyone is different.
Hi dawners,I was on Effexor for about a year and a half and it worked fine for most of that time. It was between 2 other SSRIs or SNRIs for me and seemed like all of the others. I don't remember why I needed to change, but nothing stands out from any of the others. Best of luck to you, it just may be fine...trying is the only way we know.
Trazodone has been the drug that helped me sleep for about 17 years. Then I changed, it wasn't the trazodone's fault. Take care!
Hugs, Love, and Blessings...
