New + Job Question

Hi, I am new here. I am a 27 yr old female & have recently been told I have anxiety & depression which I am in therapy for. I feel like this is starting to greatly affect my job (office administration) and work performance as I am rarely focused and just end up making errors all the time, which really displeases my boss. I am worried I might get fired and have to go on a sickness benefit (aka government assistance). I just wondered how many people on here are either unable or still able to work while having anxiety & depression? Also, if anyone has any tips on how to cope while at work, that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I have a hard time working when my anxiety is peaking. I am very lucky because I work for myself now and can set my hours because I knew I would never be able to do a 9-5, 5 days a week once I started having anxiety attacks daily.

If you feel comfortable talking to your boss about this do so! It can really help if they are empathetic and it will help them understand why you make mistakes sometimes. Also definitely see a dr. about natural anxiety relievers or anxiety medications that aren’t addictive.

And always remember you are not alone! They are millions of us out here fighting with you!!

Welcome! I unfortunately don't really have tips, but I do function at a full time job with anxiety and depression. I'm usually in school part time, too, and also have another debilitating disorder. However, I'm very lucky. I've also been struggling with focus, memory, etc. at both work and school so I am interested in hearing what feedback you may get here.

Welcome to the group! 😃

I don’t know how many tips I can provide without talking to you more but I’ve had anxiety and depression most of my life and I’ve worked at full-time jobs for the last 11 years. Before that I was in school and I’ve been in school part-time while working full time.

Without knowing your situation the best tip I could give you is learn to take care of yourself outside of work. Learn to make positive changes in your life, practice self-care when you can and try and reach a position where mentally and emotionally you’re more stable and focused.

If you’re struggling at work even after doing that, my first question would be have you ever just taken a moment to yourself? Not to check your phone or make a call or anything that stimulates your mind but to do something purely simple and relaxing. Something like closing your eyes for 10 seconds and saying “you can do this” or reminding yourself of your accomplishments may sound silly but can help some people.

You’re always welcome to reach out to me or check some out some of my posts. The ones with the pictures are meant to be more inspirational or helpful than the ones that don’t. Those are usual more updates about my life or me complaining for a bit. I don’t have one for working yet but maybe there’s something in there that can change how you view your situation or yourself and help you.

I hope you find what you’re looking for here! Best of luck! 🙂
