Anxiety
Hello Tamka39, I just wanted to send you a virtual hug or two! Please know that there are people on this forum that although have never met care and want you to be well. We all want you to feel better.
Focus on the fact that you have an appointment with your counsellor to start on that road to a more positive state of wellbeing. Maybe write down just on some paper or a notebook what you need from counselling but focus on your goals e.g. I am in the supermarket and manage to do my shopping or I feel calm or I am so proud of myself. Do not think about how you are going to get there just write down what you want to achieve for your own health. Remember the right counsellor will help you work out which tools and strategies will help you manage your anxiety. Please let us know how you are getting on and keep in touch with this community.
I know too well how awful depression/anxiety are, and they are not easy to deal with, I loved Prozac when I was on it, it takes 6 to 8 weeks to build up in your system, you did not say how long you have been on it. It came off of it as I build up a tolerance to it. Zanax is great for anxiety, I suggest when you are going to the store, or an engagement you take one about 30 mins before you leave, that should take the edge of your anxiety, it works for me. Try to think about the fun you will have looking for the things you need, and see how much fun it is when you do it, I think you will find the time passes quickly. I am glad you are seeing a therapist, as Jyelrihs suggests, write down some questions you want to ask it will help break the ice and the therapist will be able to help you better. Come back and talk to us, we care and do not want you to suffer. I send you love, courage and strength. Sprinkle 1.....
Anxiety is just so hard. I am glad people like you post truthfully. It helps others . Everyone is affected. Things always get better. I encourage you to post & put yourself first . Peace to you
I agree -- focus on seeing your counselor and talking out your anxieties, when you feel them and ask for help to understand why. The counselor can give you ideas that can help you ease them, in addition to the Xanax. Do you think the Xanax is helping you? Do you see it calming you? If you don't think it is working, tell your psychiatrist. How long have you been taking it?
Remember too that certain foods, like caffeine and sugar, can make your anxieties worse. Fast foods can make the anxieties worse, too. Eating a balanced diet (protein, carbohydrate [bread]) with fresh vegetables and fruits can help you feel calmer, less anxious.
Self affirmations like 'I am ok', 'let things be', 'I can do this', 'I am not a failure', can encourage yourself. Drinking will only make things worse and it will certainly make your anxieties worse because alcohol is a sugar. It does not relax, even though it feels like it does, but makes anxiety worse.
Try to walk daily inside your home, for exercise. Watch an exercise program and do the entire workout. It will help you feel better, overall, and about yourself. Clean your house as this will help encourage you, too.
Anxiety is hard to live with, I know, but you can do little things that can help ease it and feel better.
Hi, Tamka39 - stay on your meds and keep that therapist's appointment! How long have you been on Prozac? It can take up to six weeks to work, so don't worry if you haven't seen a change. For your anxiety, have you tried meditation? It can really help when used in conjunction with meds. Good luck!
I do take anti-depressants and they help. One thing to know is that they CAN lose their effectiveness over time, so you may need to change periodically. I am currently on Cymbalta. Have you talked to your doc about your worries about the Xanax? If you don't feel like you can, you might think about changing doctors if you can. For the anxiety, there is a good book called "Mindsight" that you might check out. Hang in there!
Hi Tamka39,
You are loved, you are important, you are valuable, you are precious, you are needed.
Sometimes when I feel like I am down in the dumps, music will lift up my spirits. Do you mind if I share a song with you? Maybe this might hep...
