a casserole illness

i heard someone say on a podcast i was listening to that depression isn’t a casserole illness. when you tell someone you have cancer or you’ve broken your leg, people immediately want to help and would bring over a casserole.

but when you tell people, or should i say IF you tell people that you have depression, no one brings over a casserole. no one says anything. no one knows what to say because it is still so taboo to have something “wrong” with your brain.

i find this to be awful and wish that the stigma would continue to fade away. not everyone can just fall into line, get the perfect job, find the perfect person and have the perfect 2.5 kids with the perfect house. some of us question this thing we call life and struggle with things others find so easy.

here’s hoping that the future looks better than the past.

Hey, if we did everything we were "supposed" to do, I would find this boring!

I will bring some veggies! Liked anxiety's 59 post!

This is such a great way of putting it! People really don’t understand our illness sometimes unless they’ve experienced it personally or at the very least studied up on it! I’m glad we all have this little nook in cyber space to come support each other! I wish you the best of luck on your journey! 🤗

I agree with this post. I think a lot of people don't really understand anxiety and depression completely. They think that I am being a crybaby and whimp. They tell me that everyone in the world has problems. What they don't understand is I don't want to be this way. I am trying to make myself feel better but I can't however hard I try.

The people that understand what it feels like are too depressed to cook ;)

I agree.

Depression has a wide range of spectrum and it varys upon each person.

It is not a taboo to express what your heart and mind feels it is a shame when others wants to underestimate how you feel.

Wish you well

I think that when people validate feelings, that is real support.

One of the hardest parts of a physical illness is the emotional suffering that goes along with it. Like thinking” am I gonna die? “. “ can I deal with this treatment or that treatment”.
