Anxiety is awful following trauma

Hi all. I am new. My darling Mum died in June this year and three weeks later I had a heart attack. I have always suffered with anxiety but this has floored me. I am constantly on edge and every twinge I have I think is another heart attack. My GP is so lovely and I am on sertraline and diazepam. My chest and back are always painful and I think the worst all the time. I can hardly function and my husband and teenage boys are fab but I just want to be normal agaIn. Will I ever be?

Yes,when I was told I had high blood pressure I got more stressed trying to make sure I wasn't gonna get any ,I made myself worse. Just try to enjoy each little thing in life and do things you enjoy.

Hi and welcome to this wonderful community.

I am sorry that you are going through so much. I pray that you begin to feel better.

Blessings!

My condolences to you with the death of your mum. That can certainly be a major change in your life. And experiencing a heart attack is definitely a major event. It is so easy to understand the anxiety that goes along with recovering your own personal health along with grieving the death of your mum. I'm glad you are pleased with your GP. Would GP refer you to a counselor to help with the emotional healing from these 2 significant life events?

Our mind, bodies, and soul are connected. When something is off in one area, negative effects will sometimes occur in another area. It seems that you have a great family who loves and supports you (husband and boys). You've gone through a lot recently. I don't know how long it would take someone to go through the stages of grief as well as dealing with the effects of a heart attack at the same time so I say allow yourself to go through this process at your pace. Everything you are feeling and what you are going through will past with time. It would be great if there was a quick fix. Take it one day at a time and if you are able to get the assistance of a counselor too, that may be beneficial.
