i’m sad all the time and whenever i think i’m doing okay, i’m back to being sad and i can’t control it. and then my anxiety kicks in out of nowhere and makes everything worse. i have mental and emotional breakdowns that i have no control over. i think talking to a therapist is what’s best but i don’t know what my parents would say..they don’t believe in mental illnesses.

I can empathize with you! My parents didn’t believe in outside help for mental illness. Imagine that! They just swept things like that under the rug and didn’t talk about it or delve into it. You should’ve seen the horror on their faces the 1st time I was admitted into a psych hospital! My Father said, “Get your things together, we’re leaving. You’re not like these people.” I stayed, of course, and was diagnosed Bipolar. What he didn’t realize is that I was EXACTLY like those people! Ignorance or turning a blind eye...you just have to chuckle!
You need to do what you need to do for yourself! You alone know how you feel. Your parents will either accept it, not accept it or be supportive. What matters is that you seek the appropriate help you need right now. Hopefully you can make some changes that get you on your way to feeling better! Wishing you the best!!
Hi and welcome to the site. Just because your parents don't believe in mental illness doesn't mean it it doesn't exist! However it's only if you are a minor that you have to worry about your parents disapproval. If you are 16 or over you can take yourself to get treatment. x
How old are you? If you are a minor, is there a school counselor you can speak to? If you are an adult, I would encourage you to get help. Your family doesn't need to know and the counselor can likely help you learn how to speak to your family about your needs for support and understanding. I am glad you are here. You will get ideas and most of all people who understand.
