Does anyone know if there's a link between benzo's & dementia? It runs in my family & I'm getting paranoid!!!! Thank you if you have any answers for me! Going to my Dr. Weds. so I'll be talking to him about it. Love & hugs to all of you! XXX

okay....did my homework....I have in the past taken a Xanax....but don't take them because of the addictive nature of them, that's because I'm prone to addiction. But since they stop panic attacks quickly, it's needed for many for now till there is a non-addictive alternative....here's what I read:

When people take a benzodiazepine for a long stretch of time, the brain starts to forget how to operate effectively in its absence. Xanax harnesses control over emotional responses, thought processes, memory, consciousness, and even muscular coordination. All benzodiazepines ramp up the production of neurotransmitters known as GABA, which are responsible for calming nerve impulses that lead to emotional expressions like anxiety and panic.

I've cut myself down too 2 a day I'm so paranoid, I don't feel any with drawls symptoms though so I think that's a good thing!!! Have yourself the best day ever! Also thank you for your response, very kind of you, such a sweetheart!!! XXX

Ya know girl.....maybe the paranoid feeling is your body reacting to less of the drug in your system..it's temporary usually, takes a few days..it's just a drawback with medication sometimes..and you just have to ride the wave till your body re-adjusts to the lesser amount....hopefully after you talk to your doctor they can give you some concrete answers to this, and that it will pass when your body re-adjusts to the level in your system....it's gonna be okay....just a process.

oh....man....that's a tough one....as you know my thing is trust...and it does make me leary of peoples intentions sometimes....but....like you....we are fighting the good fight to live a life with our stuff.....

My mom has Alzheimer’s which I think you know so I get worried as well. My thinking is taking it as little as possible. That’s what I’m doing. Or find a med that helps enough that you can wean off of the benzo. Best to you, beautiful! Have a great day!

When you go into the hospital for anxiety and have a dependence on benzodiazepines- some hospitals/ Doctors will prescribe Gabapentin. It has been found to be very helpful for many people in replacing benzodiazepines. I got off them after 10+ years of daily usage with Gababpentin. I wasn’t hospitalized, but luckily had an enlightened and progressive Psychiatrist because Gabapentin is not made for anxiety. It was made for nerve pain, etc. People taking it for fibromyalgia and other similar afflictions reported anxiety relief. Like every med out there, it works for some and doesn’t work for others. It worked for me. Ask your Doc his opinion.

I just got on Paxil and it’s working well enough that so far I haven’t felt the need for a benzo as much.
