Just throwing this out there. I use a rubberband on my wrist to redirect my negative thinking. Whenever I realize I'm going down the dark, negative thinking highway, I snap the rubberband on my wrist several times. That forces me back to the present and out of my head to be aware of my surroundings. It works maybe 50% of the time, which is better than nothing.
