Does prayer really help ? I don’t mean to offend anyone who is religious but who are we praying too? Does “god” really heal our wounds? I’ve heard it all but I’m still not convinced of this! Again I don’t mean to offend anyone this is just from my personal perspective.

A prayer life grows as you grow closer on your path to God. Sometimes God permits a dry spell in your prayer life to exercise your faith, or is calling you to a new form of prayer. Or God might want you to simply sit and be still and listen for him. Prayer is a conversation.

Prayer and leaning on God has been the only thing that has stayed constant in my struggle with mental illness. Having that firm foundation of a Father God who loves you and listens to you and keeps all your tears is comforting. Jesus suffered all and knows the pain we feel. He was human and suffered too. He knows and he sits with us as we endure the pain. Reading the bible is helpful, especially the psalms!

Starting a relationship with God can been frightening or uneasy if you have not before. Try it anyways. Start simple. Tell Him hello. Talk to Him as you would a friend. Everyday tell Him how you are doing and what you did that day. He is REALLY listening!

Trust me when I say that He has healed multiple facets of my life and continues to be by my side through the pieces I'm still working on. He wants FULL healing and restoration for you!

"I cry aloud to the Lord; I lift up my voice to the Lord for mercy. I pour out before him my complaint; before him I tell my trouble. When my spirit grows faint within me, it is you who watch over my way. In the path where I walk people have hidden a snare for me. Look and see, there is no one at my right hand; no one is concerned for me. I have no refuge; no one cares for my life. I cry to you, Lord; I say, “You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.” Listen to my cry, for I am in desperate need; rescue me from those who pursue me, for they are too strong for me. Set me free from my prison, that I may praise your name. Then the righteous will gather about me because of your goodness to me."

-Psalm 142: 1-7

I love the Psalms. I used to pray the psalms.

Yes, it is the relationship with the true Creator of this universe that is healing. Prayer is a means of connecting with Him. Yes, it is healing and it is life changing. I am not praying to some distant god, I am praying to the living Christ who I know from scriptures (and other sources outside of the Bible) lived, died and was resurrected. It is an awesome thing to know He is real.
