Can anxiety meds become less effective over time?

Hi everyone- so, after trying a few medications for my GAD, about 2 years ago I ended up feeling fairly "ok" on 20 MG Lexipro once a day and 30 MG x2 daily of Buspar (and Xanax when I am really in a bad place as needed). Man- that is a lot of medications when I type it out....

Anyway, I have really felt more anxiety coming into my daily life again and I am worried. I'm still doing as much self-care as time allows- but I am wondering if I should talk to someone about changing meds?? I am already at the max dose of both main meds- so can't really go up.

I guess my question is, have any of you got to a point where you really knew the meds were no longer working? Should we (as anxiety people....) feel that once we get a med or two (or three...) works it should KEEP working? Is it normal to need to change meds every few years?

I'd love to hear any personal stores on this- I really can't tell if it is my body getting "used" to my meds or if I just have unacknowledged things which are increasing my GAD....

I do know that for myself some meds worked and some were not so effective..and yes I have often heard here of peoples meds stopped working...certainly something I would talk to your doctor about...hope you get it sorted out okay.

fauxartist is on the right point. Some meds become less effective over time and I had to have adjustments to others several times. You should really talk with your doctor. Hope all works out well for you.
