Hey guys, so some of you may or may not know from my first post that I was going to have my first paych visit tonight. Well i just wanted to ask the community for some advice bc i feel like nothing was alleviated. Granted, i know it was the first visit and there’s some time needed ro establish a bigger picture, but I can’t help but feel like i just paid lots of money just to talk about myself with not much feedback. My question to everyone is: do you guys think i should continue seeing my psychologist? I really feel like i just wasted money when I could’ve just talked to a really close friend. I just left the visit confused is all.... thanks for reading.

First Psychologist visit ever.
t_nguyen, it is a common feeling after leaving the session as to what has been accomplished. Let me tell you it takes more than a few times for the therapist to really get a full picture of your emotional status. It is a lot of money, I know, but talking with a friend is not going to give you the unbiased, professional feedback that you need. I really recommend you give it some time to connect with the psychologist. If after several times, you don't feel it's a good fit, you do not connect with the doctor, then it might be best to find someone else. Each therapist works in their own way of connecting with a patient and making that patient feel comfortable while also trying to give them some direction.
Nothing is a quick fix unfortunately, especially emotional issues. I hope you keep the next appointment. Let us now how that goes. Psychotherapy can be very beneficial in the long run. x
Hi Agora1,
You're right. And these were one of my thoughts, it's unreasonable for me to expect for him to try and fix something when he doesn't know who I am and to resolve an issue that has been ongoing for a long time now. I couldn't help but to think about it on my train ride home (I'm from NYC) and I thought to myself "man i'd like to talk to someone about my visit" then i thought about this website and you guys! Thanks for you valuable input Agora!
