I was diagnosed with anxiety/depression almost a year ago. Recently, I found out that I am pregnant. I go to school full-time(graduating this year), work, and I also live alone at school about an hour and a half from any family support. I discontinued Zoloft because I was worried about the risks it carries for the baby. But, I have been increasingly anxious most days and it causes depression. I'm thinking about taking medication once again, but I don't have any experiences to go off of to be able to tell if it's safe or not. Has anyone taken Zoloft or an SSRI for anxiety/depression while pregnant? Or, does anyone have any advice on helpful techniques that worked for them to control anxiety?

Hiya, welcome 😀 having a baby will give you a whole new lease on life, it's amazing. Back to your post, it's hard, I cut down on antidepresent, when pregnant, I 1st like you stopped them, then after a month it was so hard, my doctors opinion was if the mum didn't feel well the baby won't , so his opinion was to take them and half the dose, which I did. However every med is different speak to your doc and get his/ her advice don't decide yourself . Good luck X

Thank you! I talked to the doctor about taking them and they said to wait until 12 weeks. I am almost there but still worried about any complications that could happen. I just feel so torn. Taking medications to help myself, or not taking them to better the health of the baby. My doctor also agreed that if the mom isn't feeling well than neither is the baby but i cant help to feel guilty about taking the medications
Hiya, I trusted my doc and done what he said, the only thing I noticed was my baby was jumping/jerking occasionally after 2-3 days the hospital staff didn't notice it, but I did, it was the dad who said to me, that's what I used to do in my sleep when I came off them, it lastly 2 - 3 days I felt really guilty at the time, but I didn't know that would happen (obviously it was withdrawal signs) it makes me feel guilty now I think of it, but I didn't know, it would happen, and tbh I've not thought of it till now 8 years ago. It still doesn't answer your question, when a doc says it's better for mum to feel happy, must (I think) you won't harm your baby, or they would be struck off giving you that advice.
All I can tell you, is what happened me, hopefully you may get other replies. Good luck Hun x
You should talk to your obstetrician about the risks of any medication while you are pregnant.
I don’t have the best memory so I don’t know if Zoloft is safe, there are some antidepressants that are considered safe so you’d have to talk to your doctor which you said you did. If your doctor says it’s ok and you feel better on them then to me it’s a no brainer. As moms we feel guilt over so many things. As long as your baby/child knows that he or she is loved than you should not feel guilty.
Take care of you!
