Hi Sergio. I understand how bad can be and I hope you will overcome this problem. You need to have faith that everything will be alright. Nothing lasts forever. Life it’s like an endless circle. You just need to be silent and let those thoughts comes but not touch them. If we think about them or even try to stop overthinking will become bigger and more often. Just let it be. Smile, spend time with your friends. Go out because you’re young. Don’t try to stop nothing just let it be. What can go more wrong then it is? Think it. You are a strong man and you can try to make a balance of the good and bad things on your life. And think at the worst one how bad it can be. You think you can’t handle them? There isn’t such thing as impossible, just an infinite mind that can be trained to see that . Be strong. We are here for you if you need it. Big up

Hi sergioB, Anxiety symptoms can be terrifying until we start dissecting it. Then it somehow looses it's power over us. The mind/body connection is a strong one. Once we can come to realize as well as believe that it's our minds doling out negative thoughts that causes our body to respond negatively, we will be able to ACCEPT that it is not harmful. With that the fear will go down as well as the adrenaline highs.

A book highly recommended on the forum has been Dr. Claire Weekes "Hope & Help for your Nerves". It explains how we all are tricked by Anxiety in thinking we are dying or have a serious medical issue. When the answer is knowing and accepting the symptoms as harmless. Some use short term medication and therapy to get them pointed in the right direction.

Other methods or tools accompanied with acceptance can bring you to a more calmer, peaceful place in your mind. I use positive reinforcement as well as daily meditation and deep breathing. If and when an anxiety blip comes along, I immediately erase it from my mind and go on with my life. It takes practice and patience but we all get there sooner or later.

Using this forum as a support means helps immensely in knowing we are not alone and that we have others who not only understand but who we can lean on. I welcome you to an amazing forum with caring men and women who like yourself just need to know better days are coming and that someone cares. x

Agora, I am trying to think positive but also accepting, deep breathing and exercise and such. Curious, what type of things do you do for using positive reinforcement?

Agora1 in reply to Starrlight

Starrlight, it's a mental confirmation that I give myself for doing something I was afraid of as well as a treat. I just came back from grocery shopping. There was a time that I wasn't able to drive yet alone spend an hour and a half shopping. I started out slowly using my deep breathing for stability. Now I don't even think about it, it comes naturally. Since I am back in control, I treat myself to nail polish, cosmetic but mostly a chocolate treat. When I accomplish something that use to be impossible, I now get a high. My endorphin levels are up there. When I feel like this, I am ready to share that feeling with the forum, helping others get to that point. And you will :) xx

Awesome. Thanks for sharing! I like the mental confirmation and treating yourself. I do somtimes; should do that more but its hard to be kind to myself sometimes. I am too hard on myself. I know what you mean about endorphins attached to doing something afraid of, not that it happens for me often, but any bit is encouraging to keep it up. Hearing that you have come a long way gives hope. I recall a time that it was easy to drive and walk into a store...panic days come and go, i have had the struggle lift out of the blue so that i could do basically anything i wanted without a second thought and now i am in another battle to eventually win. Anxiety can seem mysterious but it helps to figure out some peices to the puzzle.

I’ve been reading through all the posts here. I’m having a rough day trying not to take any Xanax. You have really good advice Agora1

Agora1 profile image
Agora1 in reply to Lostjoy

Lostjoy Thank you but know that everything I say is from my own experience. It wasn't easy. I was on Xanax for many years at the start. There is a time and a place that medication can be beneficial in having you go forward in finding other methods to explore. When on Xanax I was in therapy as well as trying different forms of self help.

Taking a medication for a short respite is not a defeat but rather a crutch that we all need at times. Don't be hard on yourself. We support you because we care xx

Thanks for that. Taking the Xanax makes me feel like I’m becoming an addict. It relaxes me so much, but makes me feel weak that I can’t do it on my own yet.

I think it’s time for me to get the Claire Weekes hope and help for your nerves. I’ve seen it mentioned here quite a bit. Just looked it up on eBay and it’s only $3.99 with free shipping.

Oh definitely Lostjoy. Dr. Claire Weekes book will become the foundation in going forward. What she has to say about Acceptance is true in that is the "key" we use to rid ourselves of the fear.

Let me know what you think of it once you've had a chance to read it over. FYI...you can listen to her videos on Anxiety on YouTube. xx

I looked her up on YouTube, but all I was able to find is other people talking about their experiences with her books. Maybe I’ll have to try wording my search differently.

If you get into YouTube and then just type

Dr. Claire Weekes, it will come up as an audio of her. I remember more recently finding some old videos on YouTube that were of her talking to a group of people. I'm going to continue searching for that. x

Sorry, one last suggestion. I typed in Hope & Help for your Nerves on You Tube and came up with more audios as well as interviews with her.

I hope this helps you some until you get her book.

Wishing you peace and calm xx

Hi Sergio..Im a 43 young male..I dont take medication..Im tired of all this shit too but from my experience, I have surrendered to God or else I would not have made it...so dont lose faith or hope and never give up..Its an everyday battle I know..but one day you will thank this darkness..you see, you need darkness for stars to shine and you are a star..listen to your inner self, at the moment it's telling you your on the wrong path..maybe change some old habits, go through your motions..picture it as a video game..you press start, then you move forward, you pick up treasures, you get bonus points, you dodge obstacles, the game gets harder as you get further, it shows you which direction to go but it's always to move forward, forward to the next stage..you might lose and go back to the start, this time it's easier, you know where to go where the extra points are and you make it to the next level..Just like life..you get dοwn you get up stronger, keep moving forward, go through the obstacles, get to the next stages of your journey..Its ok..Just never give up..
