Hi everyone, my name is Savannah and I have both anxiety & depression. I've been dealing with both since I was in high school, but it wasn't until recently that I have been officially diagnosed. I went to therapy for awhile before being put on anti depressants, I continued therapy until I lost health insurance, but hoping to get put back on it again soon. I felt like my medicine was helping me so I started to wean off of it, but with this change in season it has ramped back up again so I started taking my medicine again. I don't necessarily feel sad about anything, I just have more of the lack or want to do anything other than being in bed. I keep my mind busy by playing game on my phone or watching TV, but other than that it's hard to stay focused on anything else. I don't have too much of a support system with this either which is hard when I'm trying to be vulnerable about our disease. I've been told by multiple family members "why are you anxious and depressed, everything is going great right now" and I honestly don't have an answer. I'm just hoping having something like this will help.

Hi Savannahs Having a support system is helpful in knowing you are talking with others who understand. This time of year always seems to make both anxiety and depression worse. It has to do with the change of seasons, less daylight and the stress of the holidays. It turns into a lack of motivation. Has nothing to do with things going great or not at this time of the year.

I'm glad you are getting back on your medication especially since therapy is not able to be done right now. Know that the forum is here for you to interact with others in learning how they handle their issues. We welcome you to the Anxiety & Depression Support Group. :) x

Hi Savannah

It’s one of those comments we always get isn’t it? ‘What do you have to be depressed about’ etc etc. I guess people through no fault of their own, have no idea what it feels like and it’s hard to explain to others, well I have difficulty anyway.

I think going back on your medicine should hopefully help you feel more motivated with life and as Agora1 said, this time of year is definitely one of the most stressful which makes the depression so much more intense.

Sorry I’m not much help but I know how you feel xx

Hello, the two lady's that have written, depression is difficult, it is our brain lying to us. As an ignorant person when I got feeling better, I weaned myself of my med's. well I paid the price for it, the depression came back and worse. I advise do Not stop taking it if it is working for you. This time of year is known as SAD = Seasonal Affective Disorder. It is in the definition book. As Agora says it is tied into the shorter days, lack of sunlight, darkness. Stay where there are bright lights and keep lights bright at your home.. Depression is becoming more accepted and people are getting a better understanding, I am glad there are so many ads.. on TV for antidepressants, bi-polar etc., helping to make people aware, There are 20 million in the US who suffer from depression and 40 million with anxiety, other millions who are plagued with PTS, Panic Attacks, Phobias, etc, a lot of suffering going on around us. And thankfully they are doing something about it. Hang in there, talk to us, we will try to help you, we know the pain and suffering as we are going thru it too. I send love, peace and healing.
