I've had severe anxiety, depression, and eating problems. I will be going to a psychiatrist appointment in January. Can someone tell me what its like in an appointment and what they do?

Psychiatrist
How they go about things depends on the doctor, but he/she ill want to know about your symptoms and medical history. It's really a conversation about what's been happening that you want help with. Psychiatrists don't really do counseling - their job is more to diagnose people and prescribe medication if you want to take it. Most are very nice and will do all they can to make you comfortable.
If you want counseling then you should see a psychologist.
When I first went to a Psychiatrist, I filled out an intake form. It was a male, he was very comforting and made me feel at home. So no need to be nervous they are here to help us, they want us to feel comfortable, he/she will make you feel comfortable, so feel comfortable to spill out your misery. I loved my Psychiatrist and am sorry to leave him, I moved from Calif. to S.C. and now have a Psychiatrist Nurse Practitioner who I am getting to know.
So go for it I say, they are here to help us. And If you do not like Him/Her after a visit or two find another one. O.K.
I am with your as are the rest of of us here. Love & Good Wishes. Sprinkle 1
Just to clarify I have been to therapy for 2.5 years but it didn't help too much, it DID HELP ME BUT NOT ENOUGH. So that's why I'm going. What I was asking was what they do and that kind of stuff. I know they give meds but I don't know what the first appointment is like and stuff.
